Once upon a time, crocodiles and deer lived in the same region. Crocodiles have long been eyeing the deer to be made into food. However, the deer can always avoid his pursuit. He is a resourceful animal so crocodiles always have trouble catching him.
Although always escaped from the pursuit of crocodiles, but long-time kancil feel worried too. Therefore, he moved home to other areas to stay away from crocodiles. He lived under a big tree downstream of the river. At first the crocodile felt confused because it did not see the deer in its usual place. So he looked for her here and there, asking the animals he met.
“Oh, the deer moved to a tree near the downstream of the river,” said the little bird who was asked by the crocodile. Of course crocodiles are happy to hear that information. Soon he went to the place that the bird meant. He can't wait to hunt the deer. He really felt curious, wanted to enjoy the meat of the deer that he had long craved. After finding the place, the crocodile moved there as well. However, the deer still do not know.
For days crocodiles watched the deer. He learned the habits of the deer while devising a strategy to capture it. From his observation, the crocodile knew that the deer often went to a small island overgrown with apple trees near the sanctuary. To get there, the deer used to cross the river by jumping some large rocks that are between the sanctuary of the island.
“I have an idea!” exclaim crocodile. When the deer went to a small island, the crocodile hid behind a rock in the middle of the river. He waited for the deer to jump on the rock.
That day the deer was satisfied to eat the fruits on the small island. Then he came home cheerfully. He jumped from the river to the rocks to get to his house. But upon arriving in the middle of the river, he saw the shadow of the stone he was about to jump looked higher than usual.
Canker's witty wits soon catch that something isn't right.
“Don't there be a crocodile behind the stone?” batin kancil, suspicious. After thinking, he managed to make sense. He shouted towards the rock, “Hai stone! How are you?”
Silent. There's no answer. Kancil then asked again. “What is my best friend's stone? Usually you answer my greeting.”
“Oh, so usually this stone speaks?” inner Crocodile who was silent on the stone. “Then I must pretend to answer it so that the deer does not suspect.”
“Halo also, kancil,” replied crocodile.
Crocodile surprised. Apparently his disguise has been discovered. He realized that the deer had outsmarted him. He was really annoyed with his own stupidity.
“Yes, I chased you here because I wanted to eat you!” sahut crocodile, exasperated.
“Good. This time you managed to trap me,” replied the rabbit while preparing for the next stratagem. “Open your mouth wide so I can jump into it.”
Kancil is really clever. He knew that the crocodile's eyes would close when the crocodile opened its mouth wide. And just after the crocodile opened its mouth, the deer immediately jumped on the crocodile's head, then jumped over another stone agilely, and after arriving at the riverbank immediately climbed a large tree where it lived.
Once again, congratulations from the pursuit of crocodiles. It was all thanks to his intelligence that far surpassed that of a crocodile. While the crocodile was forced to bite his finger because it again failed to catch the long-sought deer.
