Cthulhu Gonfalons
Chapter 5

Sui Xiong discovered that in this world, there is a power called “magic energy”.

Giant whales have been born with the ability to practice ice magic. But the reason why his ice magic was strong enough to freeze so much water so quickly was because he had made a great effort to improve his ice magic, rather than relying on his natural abilities. To enhance his ice magic, the whale had absorbed rich magic energy from a special trench in the deep sea.

In fact, Sui Xiong was eager to go ashore, so he could find some people and find out what was in this world. But he also knew that his safety was the most important, no matter when or where he was. If he could not control his curiosity, it would probably take his life, even if so far it seemed like he had nine lives like a cat.

The world is not safe at all. If a whale in the sea had a dirty trick up its sleeve, then who could tell what dirty trick a human might play. Therefore, he needed to make himself stronger so that he could live safely in this world. Even if he could not become the most powerful being in this world, he should at least make sure that he could escape when he knew he could not win.

He waited patiently for the ice to melt, then turned the whale's body into nutrients and absorbed them as energy. Now he can repair and repair the body of the jellyfish. He made his body bigger and more elastic by adding many tentacles and several pairs of propellers; he also hollowed out his body, making strategic holes in his thick outer skin.

The hollow body and the holes created a balance between Sui Xiong and the sea by keeping the pressure inside and outside her body the same. This way, he would not be crushed by the water pressure in the deep sea. If necessary, the hole can also serve as a blowhole, helping it change direction and adjust its posture. This level of control would be required in a big fight.

Sui Xiong recalls that before he was transported, he had been watching a famous Japanese anime that had super robots that were always involved in serious fights. They all come with “Vernier Thrusters”, something similar to the hole it makes. Allegedly, the anime was very technically proficient; some people had even created real robots (whether they were powerful or not was anything else at all) by following the designs mentioned in the animation, which means that this hole really works, doesn't it? After all, guarding them would not be harmful, even if he never actually used them.

In addition, his hollow body could be used to store items. Sui Xiong had stored some precious items from the dead whale: a sharp horn containing a strong cold energy, a cold and frightening gemstone inside his head, an extremely hard skeleton, and an extremely hard one, and still tight skin. Sui Xiong had already made use of this resource to rebuild his body, but he had not used it completely, so he wrapped up the leftovers and stored them inside his body. The others usually carried the items on their backs, but Sui Xiong kept his things in his stomach, which he thought was innovative.

Completely ready for a deep dive, he quickly dived into the water and swam towards the magic trench he had seen in the memory of the whale. In the deep sea, it was dark and unsettling; he could sense that it was unsafe below here on the seabed. Sifting through the memory of the pope, Sui Xiong found that the whale was in danger here more than once. It had only been here a few times even though he knew that the trench was the perfect place to greatly increase his magic energy.

Although a whale (jing yu in Chinese) is called a fish (yu in Chinese), it cannot be classified as a fish; unlike a fish, it needs to appear and breathe. While these whales have nothing in common with whales on Earth with respect to CE and their intelligence, at least they have a need to have something in common. If the whale holds its breath long enough, it can stay underwater for a very long time. But it may still face great danger if it quarrels with others on the seabed and gets stuck there, unable to escape.

Despite this, Sui Xiong did not have to worry about this. The soul needs no air, and so does the jellyfish (a helpful fact because its body is a dead jellyfish). Sui Xiong could not understand why this corpse did not start to rot and was still able to move as if it was still alive. Simply put, he could stay in the water for as long as he wanted without worrying about suffering from oxygen deprivation.

The jellyfish could not see in the dark, but since Sui Xiong had grown much stronger, he could sense where he was through intuition. This makes it much better than the pope himself. Regardless of the time when he was foraging over, Sui Xiong often swam in the deep sea, trying to find a moat from the memory of the whales.

During his journey, he encountered some huge deep sea monsters, but he did not fight with them. His transformed body was extremely strong, which was enough to make the monster think twice before they moved towards him. Also, since Sui Xiong did not want to encroach on their territory, every time he saw them, he would take a detour so as not to provoke them.

He did not know how long he had been swimming for when he finally arrived at the trench, which was a strange region enveloped by a bluish-white light, located on the seabed within a wide gap. Although the light was not strong, it made his soul feel ice-cold. The rough rocks on the ocean floor are covered in thick layers of ice. Watching carefully, he discovered that this was where the bluish-white light came from.

“What is this God's name?” Sui Xiong muttered, while stretching out the tentacles to touch the glittering frost. The tentacles immediately turned into ice, and the ice began to spread rapidly throughout his body through the tentacles. Fortunately, he expected this to happen and was ready. The tentacle was no longer than the others, and it also had some weak joints where it could be broken down by ice to prevent it from spreading further.

After hesitating for a long time, Sui Xiong finally decided to approach the bluish-white ice trench again. Although this place was indeed very dangerous, as long as he was careful and kept his distance, danger was within his control. It's like in a world he's ever known, where everyone knows that electricity is dangerous, yet still uses it.

“OK, it will be fine as long as I keep a certain distance from him.” Sui Xiong moved forward a little, then stopped and stood in place by directing several pairs of propellers in all directions. Then, he tried to absorb some cold energy, which was far from easy. After all, he was not a giant whale born with the ability to control cold energy.

However, as the saying goes that “ good things come to those who wait”, without knowing how long he has been trying, Sui Xiong finally managed to absorb the cold energy and store it in his body. Although this process was slow, as he grew more proficient at it, he was able to absorb the cold energy faster. Eventually, he discovered that a gemstone similar to the one on the whale's head had formed on the jellyfish's body.

“Can this ... be the legendary ‘core magic’ or ‘crystal magic’? If this is true, can I evolve into a war craft? ”Sui Xiong feels a bit funny about this. Not only did the body of the jellyfish that had been dead for a while move as if it was still alive, but it could also develop into a war craft!

Now that a gemstone had formed on his body, Sui Xiong clearly felt that he could absorb the cold energy faster. Absorbing and storing a large amount of cold energy in the gemstone, he began to think about the best way to use it.

While searching for the whale's memory, he discovers that the whale has three ways to use it: first, it can convert cold energy into blocks of ice, spreading it through the water to freeze enemies. This was how the whale hit him with a sneak attack earlier. Second, the whale could scatter the cold energy around it to form a frozen armor. When it first fought Sui Xiong, it did not get the chance to use this tactic — of course, even if it worked, this would not make a big difference.

Last but not least, it could release all the cold energy stored in its gemstones at once, completely freezing most of the surrounding water. This method can actually be controlled, meaning that once out of danger, the whale can absorb the cold energy that has been released before and easily melt the surrounding water. So whether it is to escape or counterattack, this last tactic is worthwhile. However, the total release of cold energy also came at a great price. The whale will lose all of its cold energy in a very short time; therefore, this method is only used when the whale's life is threatened.

As far as Sui Xiong was concerned, the three methods were good, but somewhat monotonous. So, based on his life experience from his former world, and by experimenting repeatedly, he managed to create two more tactics. The first is the ability to make a sharp knife with cold energy. These knives can be used as a variety of ancient weapons, such as swords, spears, double-edged swords and spears, or even sharp claws and teeth. He often practiced how to turn cold energy into these weapons. In short, the blade method was a very useful weapon.

Second, he could concentrate the cold energy and release it before it became solid. Once the enemy is exposed to these cold rays, the enemy will begin to freeze from the inside out. Practicing this tactic does not consume much energy, but is much more powerful than the ice block method used by whales. Whoever is exposed to this tactic will surely die.

Since “even a dog has the name”, Sui Xiong names each of the five practices — or magic — each: “Cryo Beam”, “Frost Armor”, “Ice Blocking”, Cryo, “Ice Blade” and “Ice Bombardment”. To be honest, these names didn't sound too cool to him. Some of them even seem a bit stupid. But it didn't matter to him if they sounded stupid, as long as it was useful.

All of these tactics were only possible by using ice magic. With that gemstone, Sui Xiong could store cold energy continuously, but he could not store that much through just daily accumulation alone. Compared to absorbing it from the ice trenches in the deep sea, the former was much slower.

After several experiments, he discovered something interesting: in this world, the deeper he went, the more concentrated the magic energy was. In other words, the deeper he went, the faster he could absorb and gather cold energy; the higher he went, the weaker his magic became. Above the sea, everything would be the opposite. In this world, the magic energy close to sea level was the weakest; no wonder the fish and shrimp in the shallow water were so weak. What an incredible world!

After enough time passed, Sui Xiong felt he could no longer absorb the cold energy from the ice trench. No matter how hard he tried, the gemstone could no longer store cold energy. Conversely, if he continued to absorb it, the cold energy would leak out like water, and all of this would harm the body of the jellyfish.

He knew that the time to increase his ability in seclusion had ended. Now it's time to go ashore and find some people.
