The sound of police car sirens broke the silence of the cold night. The atmosphere that was originally quiet was now suddenly noisy and crowded after the arrival of people who were out of nowhere. The lights of the police car lit up brightly, illuminating the figure of Galih who was lying helplessly after being hit by the time. Also the figure of Rasya who was lying stiff under the white cloth covering his body. There was blood still seeping, visible on the surface of the white cloth covering his body.
There were about three police cars and an ambulance that came to the scene. People gathered around the site that had been fenced off by police lines. They were curious to see the bodies of the murder victims who were said to be students of an international school. Some of the photos were taken secretly even though the police had banned them. Not only photos of Rasya but also photos of Galih battered. Their voice was like a crowd of bees, buzzing in the ears of Gayatri who was still hiding in the darkness.
Cowardly, what one proper word was pinned on the girl who syock after seeing all those happenings?
Rasya's body was lifted on a stretcher, carried into the ambulance. While Galih was secured by the police, he was taken into one of the police patrol cars. His face was battered because of the beaten citizens. His handsome face was no longer visible, covered in blood and bluish bruises.
Gayatri with weak footsteps to the point of crawling was about to approach the two men. But again Dion's hand restrained his arm. Gayatri thrashed to clench the ground mixed with grass that she claws and clutched tightly. He shouted calling out to Galih and Rasya in his heart, but his voice was clearly not coming out.
“Ayaaa, calm down Aya. You can't get out now! This is a danger to you! You want to be beaten up citizens?” said Dion who gripped Gayatri's shoulder firmly, making Gayatri's weak body can not move.
The man pulled Gayatri's body with one hand and helped her to sit leaning under a tree. His trembling hands cupped his tear-soaked face and were now mixed with the ground from his hands. Her hair was already messy, it was unclear what she looked like. Only his breath sounded extremely rude.
“Lo calm down first, I want to contact my lawyer. Lo don't be afraid, there I am here,” Dion tries to calm the frightened girl.
He pulled out his phone and made a call with someone. I don't know what the conversation was like then, Gayatri only had time to hear the sentence, “Pah, please. Galih was arrested by the police,” that sentence was heard before Dion moved away from Gayatri and talked about other things.
Gayatri did not take it too much, she preferred to cover her ears when the sound of ambulances and police car sirens combined into one terrible melody as she left the scene and left two policemen on guard. The two voices sounded the same, but gave off different horrors. Gripping and scary.
Gayatri did not dare to hear it. He chose to hide his head between his two bent legs, then he hugged. Like a tortoise who lost his guts to face the outside world.
Samar-samar Gayatri heard that the man was also the one who contacted his parents. Gayatri does not know for sure what Dion is telling her, which is clearly not long after that her phone rings loudly breaking Gayatri's empty daydream.
Gayatri ignored him, yes she chose to ignore him. He was so afraid of the foreign sounds that filled his ear cavity. The longer, the stronger he covered his ears, hoping that no more sounds would be heard.
In the early hours of the morning, Gayatri follows her parents with Dion to the police station. His body was dirty and looked very messy. He saw Barkah and Mira talking to a well-dressed man. I don't know what they're talking about, which Mira obviously turned her head immediately when she saw Gayatri's arrival.
“Lo from where huh?!” exclaimed the puffy-eyed woman with a pale face who suddenly hit Gayatri's hand quite hard. Gayatri until the bell almost fell, fortunately Dion held it back.
“Enyak, do not be rough with Aya,” said the man reminded.
Mira did not chimed in, she looked at Gayatri's face wistfully, her tears breaking looking at her daughter's dirty face with blank eyes. “Abang lo Aya, Abang lo...” said the woman while hugging Gayatri and beating the girl's arm.
Gayatri did not chimed in, only her tears dripped without sobbing. If Mira knew that today her world was destroyed. His best friend left and his brother was accused of being the only suspect who committed the murder of his best friend.
“Udah, you sit down. Don't think gini,” Barkah pulled the hand of the wife, trying to calm her even though she was just as panicked.
While sobbing, Mira complies to sit down. Pulling Gayatri's hand to sit down. From the corner of his eyes Gayatri saw the man in full suit with the pellet head staring at him. Looks like this guy is the lawyer that Barkah hired.
“I think the police still have to investigate more deeply, especially there is no evidence. The mother's son will likely undergo a long examination if he does not cooperate and shows the evidence. So you should persuade your son and mother to cooperate with the investigator. Because after all, the father's son and mother are in a position of guilt. We can only help ease his sentence rather than release him,” the lawyer explained.
“But my son does not feel like killing a victim. My son was an honest boy, I never taught him to lie. I'm pretty sure he didn't.” He defended his son with all his heart. Of course, he knew Galih very well, his proud son.
“Every desperate person, can be a liar sir. If you believe your son is innocent and deny all the evidence, I apologize, I can not help much. You can find another lawyer,” said the man with full assertiveness.
“Eh, what do you mean? Do you want to go? I still have money to pay you. My son is innocent, how can I force him to do something he doesn't do?” Mira, who was currently inflamed, heard the man's speech.
“Don't forget Mom, your son is an athlete. Not a hard thing to break someone's ribs.” The man finished his sentence.
“EH JERK LO YES!” mira who does not accept. The woman stood up and kicked the chair the lawyer occupied until it fell.”
“Mir! What the hell are you doing?!” exclaimed Barkah who immediately held his wife's hand.
“Job of the people! I'm willing to pay this man a fortune to free my son. He even accused my son of murder! Fuck lo! Go there! I don't need a lawyer like lo” because Mira was angry to stomp her feet near the man.
The man immediately got up, he grinned sarcastically at Mira. “The mother is like this, where maybe her son is not a killer!” said the man cynically. He decided to stop. They took their contract and tore it in front of Mira and threw it away. “Please find another lawyer, I can't continue,” the man's toilet before then leaving just like that.
“BASTARDS LO! BRENGSEEEEKKKK!!” shouted Mira who was about to catch up with the man but Barkah held him back. Mira's legs tried to kick, but it did not reach the man.
The atmosphere at the police station was so overwhelming. Mira and Barkah are still trying to contact people who might be able to help her. But coming into contact with the law made them ignored. No one wants to give a favor to a Galih labeled a murderer.
In the end the three people were sitting languidly in the waiting chair. Their minds were empty, unable to imagine how to deal with the future somehow. A ringing phone resuscitated Barkah, he answered her lethargicly.
“Halo Boss,” the greeting Barkah gave to his boss.
“Barkah, I saw in the news your son killed a high school teenager is it true?” ask the man.
“Ngg-no boss. That's a misunderstanding. The Galih has killed people. He's a good boy. The boss himself knew that,” Barkah's voice was getting soft in the ear of a Gayatri because he chose to move from his place and go to Galih who was curled up helplessly behind bars.
As Gayatri approached her, the man immediately got up while holding on to the iron trellis. He was so happy because finally the brother he loved wanted to see him.
“Aya, help me Aya. Do you believe me the same? I didn't kill Rasya. I just want-nakutin him aja,” said Galih who tried to straighten his body. His body was staggering because his head was so dizzy after the pounding by those who judged him guilty.
“Gue didn't hit him once. Lo see, my hands are hurting. Still in the cast. My cubit cracked, where I might hit Rasya's chest until his ribs broke. You believe me, Aya, you believe me, right?” the man's voice sounded trembling, with a bated cry. Not that she held back her tears, but she felt that her crying would not help anything. Doesn't he have to look tough and strong so that his sister doesn't grieve?
Galih's words made Gayatri's blood rustle. His chest felt tight with the impact of increasingly heavy loads only. He did not even dare to look at the face of the elder brother that was covered in wounds. He chose to turn his back to Galih so as not to see her pitiful and desperate face.
Honestly, he himself did not know what was right and what was wrong. He believed that Galih would not hurt anyone. But a Rasya was already clearly a victim in his hands.
Seeing Gayatri who was just silent, Galih tried to reach the feet of the younger brother so as not to leave him. “Aya, please believe me Yes. I didn't kill temen lo. I have spoken well with him, ask him to stay away from you. But he ran away, writhing me like a demon. I have to let you believe. I also told the boy to come to the barn. I am nyesel. I'm nyesel!!” exclaimed Galih who ruffled her hair in frustration.
The man could no longer hold back his tears, he sobbed, making Gayatri herself cry in his heart. His tears broke but no sound came out.
“Aya, plis help me. I don't want to be here!! I shouldn't be here! AARRRGGHHH!!!!” galih shouted as he smacked the cast in his hand on the iron trellis.
Gayatri immediately turned around, crouched down to embrace the older brother. Both of them cried with a lot of fear. A lot of things that Gayatri wanted to say, unfortunately his lips were so twisted. He could only hug Galih from the outside, blocked by the iron trellis separating them.
"Gue's innocent Aya, I'm innocent. Please believe me," Galih cried among her broken cries.
What should Gayatri do now? By saying it, everything will improve? Will Galih be released?
