Dozens of them. Everything lined up perfectly in four rows, throughout the room. All open.
"Vampire bedroom again!" Crying way. She's shivering. "It's awful, Freddy. Look how many there are!"
"Vampires are all in there somewhere, wandering around, looking for blood to drink" I said. "But they'll be flying home soon. And when they see us...
How to swallow. "We'll be their dessert!" "Uh, maybe we should look for Vam pire Breath in another room" I suggested. "Somewhere far from this coffin."
But then my eyes were fixed on something. A coffin on the wall.
A closed coffin.
"See it!" I whispered while pointing. "All the other coffins were left open. It's the only one that's closed. You reckon?"
How to squint to a closed coffin. "Any," he murmured. "It's very strange."
My brain is spinning with crazy ideas. "Maybe it's an empty coffin" I suggested excitedly. "Maybe no one slept in that coffin. That would make it a perfect place. The perfect place to hide a bottle of Vampire Breath."
How to restrain me. "Or maybe there's a vampire sleeping in the coffin" he warned. "If we open the coffin and wake it..." Voice weakened. "We have to look inside!" myrag. "We have to take that chance."
We walked towards the coffin. I stared
the lid is made of polished dark wood. I carefully ran
hand over the fine wood.
Then, without saying a word, Cara grabbed one handle, and I grabbed the other. And slowly, slowly, we began to lift the lid of the coffin. The lid is heavy and heavy. Cara and I leaned into it and pushed. Finally, it fell to the other side of the coffin.
I turned to the door to make sure Count Nightwing didn't hear it.
There's no sign of him.
I straightened my body and peered into the open coffin. The inside is covered with dark green shades. It reminds me of the pool table in our basement.
I let out a breath. I wondered if I would ever see my basement again.
"We have to keep looking" I said. I started to retreat from the coffin when I looked at his pocket.
Green pocket on the side of the coffin. Like a bag on the side of a suitcase. It protruded a little from the side. Gee. Wait a minute," I said to Cara. He was halfway to the door.
I reached into my pocket. And take out a blue glass bottle.
"How to see!" I cried. I forgot that we didn't.wanted Count Nightwing to listen to us, "I found him! Vampire Breath!"
Smile on Cara's face. His dark eyes flashed with excitement. "Good job!" yells. "Looky! Now we have to hide it from Count Nightwing. Somewhere he'll never find it."
I brought the bottle to my face and studied it. "Maybe we should open it and pour it all out" I said.
How to hurry beside me. He took the bottle out of my hand. "When we opened it before, we took us back to the past" he said excitedly. "Maybe if we open it now ..."
"That will get us ahead in time!" I finished his thoughts for him. "Yes! Count Nightwing said it could be used for time travel. Maybe if we open it - and think hard about where we want to go - it'll take us home to my basement."
We both looked at the blue bottle.
Should we hide it and keep it away from the old vampire to stop him from regaining his fangs?
Or should we open it and hope that
the smelly fog will take us home? How to grip the bottle tightly in one hand. He raised his other hand to the glass stopper
upon.
He started to open it - then stopped. We looked at each other. We don't talk. "Please. Do it" I whispered.
Kara nodded in agreement. He squeezed the plug again and started pulling. But he stopped once again. And jerked.
From the corner of my eye, I saw something move. I heard soft footsteps. And I realized that we were no longer alone.
