That morning, Grisel woke up alone. There was no Rainer beside him, but there was a splashing sound of water from inside the bathroom. Grisel rubbed his eyes and stretched out both hands.
He got out of bed, the same time Rainer came out of the bathroom. Their eyes looked at them, then Rainer first turned his eyes. Grisel sighed, this is what happens every day. Their relationship felt further away.
“What breakfast are you having?” ask Grisel.
“I ate out.” Rainer picked out the clothes in the closet.
“I made it, yes. From yesterday you always ate outside, haven't you got a job yet? Fear our savings are thinning,” explains Grisel, making Rainer turn to him with a look of dislike.
“You mocked me?” Rainer approached Grisel and pressed both of Grisel's cheeks. The woman grimaced in pain, not knowing that her words would make Rainer angry.
“Sa— hurts! I didn't mean—”
Rainer knocked Grisel aside. The woman could only endure the crying, she did not mean to ridicule or offend Rainer. The man misinterpreted his words.
“What's the matter, Rai? Did I have anything wrong until your attitude changed like this?”
Now Grisel looked at Rainer sharply, he wiped tears on his cheeks. Rainer looked away, unwilling to look at his wife. Grisel's getting hurt.
“Morning still, I don't want to argue. I will have breakfast outside,” Rainer continues to choose clothes, after being able to directly wear them.
Just a shirt and jeans, after that without a word he left the apartment. Leaving Grisel who can now only look at the nanar of the departure of the husband.
“Already, just go for it,” Grisel cheers himself on. After that he rushed to the bathroom and cleaned himself up.
After getting dressed, Grisel went to the kitchen to make breakfast. Grisel let out a heavy sigh when he saw the refrigerator that was almost empty, fortunately he still had a stash of money from work at the restaurant. Maybe after this he should find another job.
Had not had time to eat breakfast, the phone on the table rang. Grisel stared at the flat object, with the name of a doctor who had helped care for his mother for a long time. Question marks appeared on Grisel's mind because the doctor suddenly called him this early in the morning.
“What's up, Doc?”
“Dek, I checked your mother's condition and I was surprised to see she suddenly realized. Since he realized he always called your name, can you come here as soon as possible?”
Grisel dropped the spoon, hurriedly grabbed it and put it back on the plate. A fragrant smile in the tears made Grisel's voice tremble.
“Sa— I'm there now, Doctor.”
Grisel turned off the phone and he didn't eat his breakfast, as quickly as Grisel got ready. He even used a taxi to come to the hospital, no matter how expensive it was.
Grisel quickened his pace, as if forgetting that he was pregnant now. Grisel's hand shook as he opened the door, slowly pulled the door handle and inside there was a doctor and a nurse who was checking on his mother's condition.
“Mother ... ” Grisel's voice choked, his tears had already flowed since he saw both of his mother's eyes had opened. The long wait finally paid off this morning.
“Dek Grisel has arrived? I want to make sure the condition of his mother is better or not. So, I am still here five minutes more,” said the male doctor who is half a century old.
Grisel just nodded. He approached his mother and sat in a chair beside the gurney. Grisel took the back of his mother's hand and kissed her.
“Not long ago, just half an hour ago. I don't think she'll ever wake up again even if her heartbeat is still there. Thank goodness God is still kind. Now the condition of his mother is not stable even though she is aware, so do not talk much, yes,” pinta the doctor.
“Iya, Doc.”
“Then I excuse.”
After the doctor's departure, Grisel could not help but cry again. He kissed the back of his mother's hand many times. Not much different, the mother also shed tears.
“Mother, why have you been so aware for so long? I miss chatting with Mom,” protest that woman.
“Mother is sick, Son. My mother is not strong ... ”
Grisel rubbed his nose that came out of the liquid, he shook his head strongly. “Mother should recover, Grisel needs friends.”
“Aren't you married? Your husband will be your oldest friend, not Mom.”
Grisel. He wiped the tears on his cheek and looked at his mother. “You know I'm married? Not that Mom is—”
“Nak, even though Mom is in a coma, but I can hear every time you complain on Mom's side. I am saddened to hear your complaints and your current situation, but there is nothing I can do. Now, I just want to say, if you're tired.” The middle-aged woman gently rubbed her daughter's hair.
The tears of Grisel flowed back. “Mother don't tell me how it is ... I'm definitely cured, don't stay in Grisel.”
“But I'm tired, son. I can no longer bear the pain. Take good care of yourself?” pinta Grisel's mother.
Grisel cried loudly as his mother said goodbye. Grisel was willing to lose everything but not with mom. Only the mother she had, other than Grisel's mother had no one.
Mom's breathing went up and down, once again mother rubbed Grisel's head despite the little energy she had. “Mother love you, do not give up and also take care of your granddaughter. I ... Pa's mother .. pamit. You ... must be ba .. happy.”
At that time, Grisel pressed the button to get the doctor to come. He shook his head many times, this was not what he wanted. “Don't stay with me!”
Grisel grew increasingly panicked as his mother's breathing began to stabilize. Shortly after that the doctor came and checked on her condition, while Grisel waited outside the room. Pacing Grisel there with worries that filled his chest.
As soon as the doctor came out of there, Grisel immediately stormed in with questions. “What is my mother, Doc? My mom is not Papa, right?”
The doctor shook his head instantly making Grisel relax. “Sorry, Deck. You are patient, yes. Now that your Mother will no longer feel pain, I think your Mother's condition will be stable but it turns out God said another.”
Grisel was sitting limp on the cold floor. She cried without a sound, her hands clutching tightly onto the clothes until they were tangled.
That afternoon, unaccompanied by anyone including the husband, there were only a few people who helped, Grisel drove his mother to the final resting place. Seeing the mound of earth with a sprinkling of flowers on it, Grisel could not help but cry even without a sound.
His mother realized not because it would heal but to say goodbye to her daughter. True said the doctor, his mother now will not feel pain anymore, but really Grisel did not want his mother to leave.
“Now I'm really alone,” murmured Grisel softly, hugging his knees with eyes staring at the headstone inscribed with his mother's name.
