According to Tafsir Ibn Kathir, some scholars such as Ibn Abbas and Qatadah said, “ that accompanies humans is a demon that is tasked to accompany humans.”

Hadith from Ibn Mas’ud ra, Prophet SAW said, “ every one of you has been sent for him a qarin (companion) from the jinn. The Companions asked, “ includes you, Yes Rasulullah?” He replied, “ including me, only Allah helped me subdue him, so he converted to Islam. Therefore, he did not command me except the good.” (CHR. The task of the jinn Qorin is to whisper evil to man and to lead him to heresy. Imam Nawawi in Sharh Shahih Muslim, explains about the history of Imam Muslim above.

Although the genie Qorin is always misleading, we as humans can take refuge in Allah SWT from its various temptations. Increasing dhikr and praying for protection to God is the most powerful way. As His words in the letter Al-A’raf verse 200:

“ When Satan tempts you, ask God for protection. Verily He is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.”

Tafsir As-Sa’di explained how to take refuge from the genie Qorin, namely asking for protection to Him.

“ Whenever and under any circumstances, when the devil tempts you, where you feel the whisperings of the devil, prevents you from doing good, encourages you to sin, arouses a spirit of devotion, then take refuge in God, stand up to Him, ask for His protection. Verily, He is All-Hearer of what you say, and All-Knower of your intentions, strengths and weaknesses. He knows your earnestness in leaning on Him, so that He will protect you from the temptations and whispers of Satan.”
