The straight path in front of Neo continued to decline. Neo seemed to be pushed forward following his shadow
it has been elongated on steep asphalt. He slightly imagined the difficulty of people walking back upstairs. To the right of Neo only the larger trees that were farther away seemed to be getting denser and darker.
The mother at Colt was right. After the road flattens, the direction turns to the left. Neo kept going straight. Until at the end of the asphalt he found a path that passes through the trunks of trees. The light dimmed as Neo walked down the narrow strip of grassless land. The leafy leaves are so tight above. Neo saw a snake passing between the branches.
A few minutes later, a suspension bridge was seen in front. The bridge is as narrow as a path. The base of the board ranks are only tied up by mines. When passing him Neo was a little bit worried. The bridge swayed every time he stepped. Neo tightened his hand on the rope. Five meters below, the river current was so swift that it passed through the boulders. Neo sets out his determination to get to the end because he believes his goal is not far from there.
After the suspension bridge, the path enters the ranks of the busier trees. The crumb is getting thicker too. Several times Neo saw snakes in those trees. Some are moving, some are silent. As the mother's advice on the colt suggested, Neo tried to ignore it. He hoped the snakes would not appear in front of him.
The light began to brighten as Neo reached the end of the path. In front of him lay a meadow. Neo set his foot on the knee-high grass, leaving the large trees behind. The pace is faster because in the middle of the meadow stands a high wall that stretches long. Like the Paranormal Academy fence in Jakarta.
Even though the edge of the sky had turned red, it was still visible in the middle of the long wall was a gate. Neo took a step there. But after only a few seconds of walking, he suddenly felt that there was someone behind. Neo turned around. Not far from him, someone stood up. A boy of his age, wearing sunglasses, his smile was on his back. For a moment Neo was stunned because he did not know where the appearance of the child who just stood by folding his hands on the chest.
“Sori, my name is Jetro.”The boy also extended a hand.
“Borneo.” Rather doubt Neo retaliates.
“You want to go to school at Paranormal Academy,” ask the boy.
“Ya,” Neo replied briefly as he looked at the child in front of him. Hair straight. The back is short, the front is long with the wind covering the forehead. He wears a white shirt with a black tie. His lips are still grinning.
“Where do you know this school?” ask the boy again.
“There is a mysterious person love message in the mail.” Neo answered as he was while taking out a fold of paper from his pocket.
The boy got serious and read the paper Neo gave him. Then he looked at Neo carefully.
“People like how?”
“I don't see clearly, dress the same pants white, wear sandals, hair a lot of gray hair.”
The boy folded the paper in his hand and returned it to Neo. Like he already knew the person Neo was telling him about.
“Where are you from?”
“From Jakarta.”
“From Jakarta bring nothing?”
“My backpack was snatched at bis.”
“In slum before Tanah Hitam?”
“Iya, many rundown houses there.”
“The area is not safe from the first.”
Then the boy looked at the long wall in the middle of the meadow.
“School has been three months here. No problem, this school is not like any other school. You can register on Monday. Tomorrow is Sunday.” The boy began to cry again.
“You're schooled here?” ask Neo.
“Iya, I'm transferring from Jakarta International Paranormal Academy.”
Neo still looked at the child who in his eyes was cute but arrogant. Actually he wanted to ask a lot of questions but the boy had already reached out.
“Come, I found you my same friend. If there is him, you do not have to worry about administrative matters and***** school whining. Hold my hand!”
Neo doesn't know what the kid means. But he had no choice. It was only that child he had met in a place like this. And it's getting darker. Neo reached out. The boy tightened his grip as he shook Neo's hand.
“Ready?” The boy grinned.
Not yet thought to answer, suddenly Neo felt dragged to a place that is not so clear he saw it because his surroundings seemed to move so fast. And when Neo could see clearly, he wasn't in that meadow anymore. The grasslands are no longer there. In front of Neo was now a large space. Neo is in the hall. Sports venues such as at school. But this is bigger. In the middle is a basketball court. And a girl was there circling in a roller skate. His hair is straight, long. His bangs flat on the forehead. Long-sleeved shirt and skirt as good as black. It seemed that he was unconscious, Neo and the black-eyed child were there.
“Nameviolet. He can predict your future if you want.” The smile of the boy with black eyes widened while inviting Neo to follow him.
The sound of the steps made the girl realize there was someone else there.
“Jet? You used teleport?” The girl stopped paddling her roller skates. His face was upset at the boy he called Jet.
“Quiet, distance deket. Let's leave cepet.” The boy with black eyes was acting calm.
“Not have I given you the side gate key? If
until the teacher knows you are using teleport, the problem can be complicated.”
“Quiet Vio.. Believe me, I know what I'm doing.
Our guest who you foresee coming today is here.”
With the rest of the annoyance on his face, the girl
looking closely at Neo. He saw a shabby boy, wearing a black t-shirt and
jean belel's. His shoes are no longer white. Then one stroke, daughter
it glided closer to Neo.
“Violet.” He extended a hand.
“Borneo.” Neo is quickly welcomed.
“Dia from Jakarta. His backpack was snatched near the Black Lands.” The boy with black eyes interrupted.
The girl looked at Neo for a moment without taking off her handshake. The girl's face was innocent but her eyes were deep. His eyebrows are thick and smooth. Her lips were small, like she always wanted to say something.
“Then you come to my house,” he said as he took off his handshake. “While wear the existing clothes first. Tomorrow I buy all your needs.”
The girl turned around and left Neo.
“Vio! Not that she planned to stay in the dorm.” The boy with black eyes was trying to catch up. Then the two of them were seen arguing in one corner of the hall. But the girl was not too fond of changing her wheelchair shoes with boots.
From afar Neo noticed their behavior. At least in this place Neo already has two friends. Jetro and Violet. One is called Jet. One is called Vio. Neo tried to remember.
Hall lights out. Vio has turned it off. Only the room near the exit was bright. Vio took his bag there. Jet follows while calling Neo to follow them.
Outside, the sky was dark. Only the lights in some buildings are visible. Although dark, Neo can still see the shape of the buildings is the same as he saw in Jakarta.
“What time will it be to home?” Ask Vio seriously to Jet.
“Around nine o'clock. If Jag manages to teleport himself to the lighthouse, I will no longer find it difficult to carry him to your home.”
“You're sure he can do it tonight?”
“Yes, sure when you first teleport yourself. His talent is not far from your talent.” Jet grinned while loosening his tie.
Vio looked a little annoyed with Jet's attitude. But he
he seemed to be trying to trust the boy. Neo, he doesn't understand much
two kids in front of him.
Vio and Jet agreed to separate there. Then Vio told Neo to follow him. Neo just kept quiet and complied because Vio always looked rushed. They both passed through one of the pedestrians. Neo felt like he was in the middle of a building. Not far from it is a large park. Ponds, pedestrians and trees are arranged in a circular pattern that is getting higher and higher. Neo still remembers, the park he saw in Jakarta was like this too. Only the ones there are unkempt and many trees are dead. Here the splashing of pool water sounds soft.
Rather overwhelmed Neo followed the girl in front of him. Until they reached the front of the three-story building. There was a big hole in the middle of the first floor wall. Like a tunnel with a semicircular curve on it. The road they walked through went through there.
“This library.” Vio explained without stopping his steps as he entered the hallway.
Neo looked up, looking at the curves of the building's support above him.
As it exited the passageway, a wide courtyard was seen in front. And at the end there, a long high wall stretched out. In the middle of it was a gate that Neo saw in the meadow. There is a parking area not far from
situ. A black sedan was parked on the edge. Vio's headed there. A man in safari came out of the car and approached Vio. He picks up Vio's bag and with a little run back to the car puts the bag in
baggage. Then Vio told Neo to go in the back door. He entered from the other door and sat down next to Neo. Neo was a little awkward sitting near the girl in the car with a luxurious fragrance and soft seating.
“Jet where to go?” Neo covered his awkwardness.
“He's back to the dorm. Tonight he will test our friend Jag's teleporting ability,” Vio replied with a straight forward gaze.
The car also left the court.
“Teleport?” Neo asked, trying not to misread.
“Ya, the ability to move from one place to another.” Vio's gaze was still ahead. “Jet is a child who has the ability to teleport naturally since birth. He taught me and Jag. But if to hold
people, their abilities are declining. It had an effect on his teleport speed. Especially if you are a person who does not have the basics like you. Teachers can tell if he's using teleport.”
Neo is trying to understand. While they had reached the front gate.
“This is the key Mr. Udin.” Vio handed a lock to the man in safari behind the wheel.
The man walked towards the gate and opened some padlocks there.
“Whatever you know about this teleport problem, do not talk to anyone later during your time at this school.” Vio's tone was rather firm. This time he looked at Neo.
“Why?” ask Neo plain.
“Teleport began to be taught in third grade. We are forbidden to do so because it is not yet the time,” replied Vio quickly.
While the men in safari clothes were back and advancing the car out the gate. Then he locked the high gate back from the iron bar.
“You were through here?” Vio broke the silence.
“No, I passed the suspension bridge,” Outside Neo saw the long bridge iron barrier.
“Where do you know that road?”
“Time to ride colt, there are mothers tell me to go through it.”
“Mom-mom?”
“Yes, she's the same daughter. Her skin is pale, her hair is red.”
Vio nodded slowly. As if I understood what Neo meant. Then he looked forward again.
“You know who he is?” Neo curious.
“Bu Sari, one of our teachers. Her son Cherries, school here too.”
Neo already knows his name Cherry. And now he knew he was going to meet that clear-eyed girl again.
The road starts to climb. Neo thinks this is the steep road he came down on this afternoon. But Vio's car kept speeding. At a turn, the road starts to go down.
“People around the Snake Forest are the longest-living people in the city. They're farmers and farmers. In addition to residents on the coast who are mostly fishermen.” Vio spoke as if he was giving a lecture.
Neo listened carefully. He felt he had to know anything about the place he was new to.
“Most people here have spiritual power. Residents here long-lived.” Vio added.
Neo remembers a grandmother and a grandfather who he saw through this roadside.
“In its history, this city is a mystical city. The mystical events that occur here are not foreign to its inhabitants. The frequency in this area is very high for metaphysical activities. That's why Paranormal Academy is here.” Vio explained seriously.
Neo was no less serious about listening while nodding his head. He hoped Vio would not stop talking.
The road is dark and lonely. Vio's car rolled off without a hitch. Until they reach a brighter place because of street lighting. In front was a roundabout with a statue in the middle.
“The statue exists when this city exists. People used to believe the statue brought rain. Until the soil here so black and fertile.” Vio explained as the car circled the roundabout.
Neo saw the signposts. Vio's car goes into the road that leads to the city. Along the way in a small town in the dark of the night, Vio explains everything they pass.
“City residents do not like the trust of people around the Snake Forest and the coast. From the beginning they wanted to knock down the statue in the Black Lands roundabout. They also accused the robbers in the slums of being masterminded by people around the Snake Forest and coastal.”
Neo remembered his backpack.
“If Paranormal Academy?” Do the residents here also not like?” Spontaneous Neo asked.
“There are groups who do not like Paranormal Academy here. But they did not dare to touch the Snake Forest.”
Then the road started to go up the hill. In the distance the hills look black. But the glitter of the lights spread like dots of stars.
“It's elite residential area. My house is there.” Vio
pointing hills with the most light points.
Colorful lighting is visible outside. The car passed
shop area, supermarket, then fast food restaurant.
“That's the only fast food restaurant here. Cherries and
his cousin, Dru, works there.” Vio explained in passing.
“Dru?” ask Neo.
“Iya, she goes to school at Paranormal Academy as well.”
They also arrived at the gate of the housing guarded by security guards. Then the car passed through the big houses with a large yard. Until they stopped in front of the fence of Vio's house. Automatic open gate. The car passed through a large park and into a large garage. There were two other cars parked there. Neo follows Vio inside. In Neo's eyes, Vio's house was so luxurious. Her furniture was like the one she saw in the interior magazine.
“This is your room.” Vio opened one of the doors. “This room has never been occupied because there have never been guests here. Bi Tumi will take care of your needs.”
Neo sat alone on the soft mattress, looking at the spacious air-conditioned room with luxurious furniture. Then a fat mother came in carrying a pile of clothes.
“Mas Neo, said Mbak Vio wear this first. The shirt is still good, has never been used Mbak Vio.” he said.
“Thanks Bi.” Neo received the clothes. There are some shorts there.
“His eyes after bathing told to eat directly with Mbak Vio.” The fat mother went into the bathroom, put a brush and toothpaste.
“Parents Vio where Bi?” Neo asked when the mother was going out.
“Papanya Mbak Vio in Jakarta. At least once a month he's here.” Then the mother hesitated to say something. “ Mom and sister Mbak Vio died in an accident.”
Neo didn't ask any more.
While taking a shower, Neo was a little awkward. She had never used a bath tub and a hot shower. Then with the shirt and shorts a bit small, Neo headed for the dining room. Vio is seen talking to Bi Tumi. It seems that Vio is upset with Bi Tumi's cooking. Vio was already holding his phone to order fast food.
“I can make fried rice.” Neo open the sound. “You what? Special fried rice, sea food fried rice, fantasy fried rice?” The last Neo to make up. “My father is a famous fried rice chef in Jakarta. I have hereditary talent. So if you see a lot of nganggur rice like this, I become mengasatertantang.”
Actually Neo's just bragging. He felt sorry for Bi Tumi. Behind that, he did not like Vio's attitude.
“Bby. You can prove your ability.” Vio challenging. And that's what Neo expects.
With the help of Bi Tumi, Neo starts to get busy in the kitchen. Vio only gave him 15 minutes. Neo never makes fried rice. But he knew his father's secret recipe. After all, if the cuisine is not delicious, Bi Tumi is no longer the one who is sneered.
A fragrant smell filled the room as the fried rice was served on the dining table. Vio looks ravenous while eating rice on his plate. And he sincerely praised Neo's cooking. Neo is relieved. Don't forget he left it for Bi Tumi
and Mr. Udin.
Before long, Vio was seen hurriedly chewing the rest of his food. Four times he glanced at the wall clock. When Neo finished, Vio immediately took him to the balcony. From the balcony of the city surface
flickering.
“At the other end of the sea.” Vio pointed his finger in one direction. “There are small islands. On one of the islands there is a lighthouse.”
What Neo saw was dark. Neo could only tell the difference between city lights and star blips.
“If the lighthouse lights on, Jet and Jag have already got there.” Vio looked at his watch. He's a little worried.
After a few seconds, a single dot with a bright flame appeared in the distance from the direction Vio pointed at earlier.
“That's a lighthouse. Jag managed to do it.” Vio looks relieved. “Let's wait in the reading room.”
Neo sat in front of a large table. Around it a wall full of bookshelves. Vio sat next to him. The atmosphere was a bit tense because from earlier Vio was just silent. Neo was silent. Until Neo had wiped his eyes when suddenly Jet appeared just like that in a dark corner of space. Then another child appeared behind Jet. The posture is higher. As they approached, the boy was seen wearing a hat and a long jacket. Vio stood up and greeted the boy,
congratulating him on teleporting himself. Then he introduced Neo. Name's Jagor. Vio called him Jag. Neo felt strange as he shaved. Jag wears thick gloves. The hat on his head is like a Japanese army hat. And it looks like Jag's a kid who doesn't talk much.
“You've told me?” Ask Jet to Vio when they've circled the big table. This time his face looked serious.
“Not yet. I wait for you guys,” replied Vio quickly.
The mood is getting serious. Not all of the lights in the room were turned on. The light in the center of the table is brightest. Vio shifted his seat towards Neo.
“We, I, Jet and Jag have a mission.” Vio opened his voice. “This mission started from someone called Mr. Darko. He was one of my teachers and Jet studied at JIPA.” Vio's forehead wrinkled, preparing for his next words.
“You ever get a JIPA flyer?” Jet interjected, asking
on Neo.
“One sheet of prints about Jakarta International Paranormal Academy?” Neo asked back.
Jet nodded quickly.
“I've met people on the street. He gave me that flyer. His guy wears a neat suit. Hair is short, straight.” Neo tried to remember.
Jet and Vio look at each other. Then Vio picked up a book on one of the shelves. The thick book with the thick cover he gave to Neo. On the cover inscribed “The Children of Tomorrow - A New World Era – by Darko Sebastian”. Beneath her is a photo of the person who once gave Neo a flyer. Wearing a neat suit and tie. In the photo he wears glasses, smiling modestly.
“Iya. He gave me the flyer.” Neo was still observing the book he was holding.
“Means you've been targeted by him.” Hoarse Jet Sound. “I and Vio used to also get a flyer from him before entering JIPA.”
“Pak Darko has another mission in JIPA. He wants to gather more capable children for a specific purpose.” Vio explained.
“Means?” Neo doesn't understand.
“Vio can predict the future. He can tell what Darko is doing in the future,” Jet said.
A moment of silence in that room. Vio is seen collecting what is in his head.
“When studying at JIPA, I once shook hands with Mr. Darko.” This time Vio's voice was slow. “I've never had that vision before. Until I passed out. At that time I saw Mr. Darko with a fire burning in his hand. Then around him were many children with their hands tied. From their eyes came fire. Among those children, I saw myself. Then there's Jet. Then I saw you.” Vio's view straight to Neo.
Neo stunned. But he can believe Vio's story. Because Neo also has something that no one else can believe.
“Pak Darko controlled the boys to burn everything they passed. Until I saw a blazing fire scorch a city.” Vio continued his story. He looked at the scorched vast forest leaving blackened trunks. There was a dried up snake carcass. “After Mr. Darko many large-bodied people wear black robes. Their faces were red and their foreheads horned. They came to a place. And later I realized, that place was like Paranormal Academy.”
“You told the same other teacher?” ask Neo.
“I meant it so. But I doubt it. Mr. Darko is highly respected in JIPA. He's a good friend of Ms. Raihan, our principal. Mr. Darko is the best graduate of Paranormal Academy in Canada.” Vio took a deep breath. His face turned tense. “Until that time there was a demonstration in JIPA. And I think Mr. Darko tried to kill me because he knew I could see his vision in the future. Good thing Jet came to my aid.”
Momentary silence. Neo saw there was a very heavy load on Vio's face. And Neo is still waiting for the details of Vio's story just now. But Vio seems reluctant to continue.
“JIPA time will be closed, Mr. Darko disappeared. Bu Raihan said he was back in Canada,” continued Vio. “But sooner or later he'll be back here. To this school. And he's not alone.” Vio's voice was a little hissing. “This mission must begin. We have to prepare ourselves. And we need one more man.
