THE LAST LOVE PIER

Chapters 1.

Haris was born in a very remote village in one of the districts in Jambi Province. Like most villages in Jambi, their village is located on the banks of the Batanghari river. Rivers have an important role in the lives of villagers, both as a means of transportation and to make a living.

The village where Haris lives is located very far in, through forests and rubber gardens with unpaved roads, narrow and bushy. Rarely are there cars passing on this road, most rubber-carriers or seasonal merchant cars that occasionally come to their village.

Their house is very simple, though, made of planks arranged in the form of a betel building stage built on a pole that is waterproof as high as 3 meters to avoid flooding or wild animals that still often roam around the village.

The floor is also from a board that is covered with mats, while the roof is from zinc or from the leaves of the rumbia tree. There are no guest chairs, no dining table, all activities are done on the mat, whether for eating, receiving guests or other activities.

This simple house is only illuminated by two incandescent light bulbs with a power of 25 watts, and even then only until 12 pm, the rest of them will use a lamp or torch because the generator engine must be rested. Each house only gets two lights and a contact stock to turn on the TV.

After twelve o'clock in the evening the atmosphere became quiet all the electric lights had been extinguished replaced by a lamp teplok or torch which sometimes dimmed in the wind.

The number of residents here is not too much at least 30 heads of families, the average system has two or three children. Their houses were lined up along the banks of the river, in the middle of which there was a breach where they performed spiritual events such as praying, teaching or commemorating the great days of Islam. In the evening after Isya broke this will be crowded by children who are learning to teach.

At the bottom of the house (below ) is used to raise goats, chickens or to cook if there is more celebration. MCK activities (Bath, Wash, Sis ) are performed above ****** floating on the river bank.****** made of large logs that can float on water. The amount of wood is about 4 or 5 pieces or it could be from a used drum that is put together and tied using a chain or rope boat. On top of it is given a board and then made a WC-walled board and a zinc roof at one of the angles *****, then each ****** tied with a rope and tied to the wood plugged in the river wall so as not to drift.

Villagers generally work as rubber farmers, almost all have rubber gardens, a plant that comes from Brazil with the Latin name Hevea Breziliensis Muele has long been known in Jambi since the Dutch colonial era, so it is famous as the city of rubber.

Generally the rubber garden in Jambi is in the form of a people's rubber garden, not so managed, left to grow irregularly. Rubber seeds scattered on the ground will grow wild, overlapping so that there are large trees there are small. The bush bush is also rarely cleaned, so it is often found dangerous animals such as tigers, bears, wild boars, snakes and others.

On average, having a large rubber plantation, at least two hectares, should be more than enough, but no, they live below the poverty line and are in debt.

Lack of information coupled with low education levels causes rubber farmers are often played by rubber toke who arbitrarily determine the price of rubber and play scales, as a result they remain hyfup in poverty.

They also have a bad habit if the price of rubber is expensive will buy anything, sometimes unreasonable, such as buying a refrigerator when electricity has not come in, the refrigerator turns into a wardrobe.

Since childhood Haris has been accustomed to playing in the river and in the forest while looking for fish or fruits that can sometimes be sold for pocket money.

Once Haris was lost in the jungle for 6 months, when he was only 5 years old, he did not come home until late at night, even though he was nervous.

The search was carried out into the forest because according to his mother that afternoon Haris was told to look for firewood on the edge of the forest.

By carrying torches they enter the forest while ringing anything that can make sounds like cans, pans, buckets and claps.

" Hariiis !! ".

" Hariiis !! ".

They shout calling Haris name while continuing to enter the forest, but the result is nil, Haris is not found.

The next day a famous shaman from a neighboring village came to help find Haris.

According to the shaman Haris hidden by the jinn on a big tree because it carelessly pees so that it hits the eyes of the genie child. There are several requirements requested by the shaman, among others, a one-meter-long white cloth, roasted chicken from black village chicken, seven kinds of flowers, rice tumpeng, rice, certainly coupled with money as the salary of the shaman.

Later that night some men led by the shaman entered the forest with the required requirements. After finding the big tree in question they stopped and put their luggage under the tree.

After burning incense the shaman read incantations that are not clear words like a feverish person who is delirious, then put drinking water into the mouth and spray it towards the coals so that the smoke is more steaming, then put drinking water into the mouth and spray it out, the smell of incense spread everywhere like a cemetery.

While the villagers were busy performing the ritual Haris was sleeping soundly in the hut of the jungle, Tribe Anak Dalam (SAD ), joined in a pondik with some children of the jungle.

That afternoon he went to the edge of the forest because his mother told him to look for wood to cook, he then collected the dried branches and tied them with a rope that he deliberately brought from home. When he was about to go home suddenly he saw a rabbit eating grass not far from where he stood.

Haris put down his luggage and tried to catch the very cute rabbit, the rabbit was surprised and ran into the forest.

Haris continued to chase until the rabbit disappeared into the thicket. After the rabbit was no longer visible he only realized that he had lost deep into the forest, he was trying to get out but instead of going out even further in.

It was getting dark, he got more and more frightened, then cried while shouting to call his father's mother, but no one heard.

Apparently Haris's cry attracted the attention of a tiger, the king of the forest came to the place where Haris stood. His roar startled Haris, he screeched, his cry grew louder, his face pale with fear. The tiger was getting closer and ready to pounce, suddenly he roared very loudly and then fell to the ground, his body stuck in a spear.

Not long after, there appeared some men in makeshift clothes, apparently they are the Orang Dalam Tribe (SAD ) who had just returned from hunting.

Luckily they were right near the place so that Haris was out of danger and could be saved. Then the jungle brought Haris to their place of residence, joining the jungle community in the middle of the wilderness.

The next morning Haris shivered coldly because he slept in the open without blankets on a very simple hut, made of round wood tied with rattan, without a wall with a roof made of weeds.

Haris quickly adapted, in just a few days he was able to blend in with the community of the jungle, speak in the language of the jungle, eat anything provided by the jungle, it does not matter if it is illegal.

The jungle people are indigenous people who live moving from one forest to another.

Jungle people will look for a new place if it feels food in their place of residence is starting to thin or if there is a threat of safety.

According to the story they came from Minangkabau people who fled into the forest for several reasons and lived nomadic groups (moving ). They are scattered in several places along Bukit Barisan, but the most famous is the one who lives in Jambi called Kubu Tribe.

Jungle people forage by hunting, looking for rattan and sap. Rattan and rubber will be exchanged for rice, salt and cigarettes, while hunted animals will be consumed themselves.

Haris likes to play with the jungle children, a lot of new things got there that he has never got in the village where he lives.

Bebukit was one of the jungle children who became close friends Haris, his age was older a year, his son was agile, he taught a lot about the habits of the jungle, ranging from hunting, climbing trees, and the, catching fish and all.

The children of the jungle name is a lot that almost sans like Bebukit, Belembah, Begunung, Besudut, of course there is no one named Grasshopper or Maggots.

Bebukit has a younger sister, her age is only three years cute and beautiful cute child, wherever her brother goes she will follow her name Seruni.

One day after 6 months Haris was living with the jungle, one of the jungle people was very sick. In accordance with the customs applicable to their communities, the, if someone is very sick they have to move to another forest and the sick will be left in that place alone with enough supplies because it is considered as a carrier of pesky. If his luck is good he will recover and be able to regroup with his group, but if it is not finished, die !.

Meetings were held, then decided by Tumenggung Talip as their leader bshwa nereka will soon move and leave the sick in that place, he said, as for Haris must be deported out of the forest because it is considered as the cause of illness one of their community members.

Bebukit is very sad to know that Haris will be separated from them as well as Seruni who has considered Haris as her own brother, but of course they have no power against customary decisions.

Before Haris was ushered out of the forest Bebukit gave a necklace from a string of agate stones, then Haris wore the necklace on his neck.

Haris is taken out of the forest and abandoned outside the forest, he is found by a rubber tapper and taken to the village where Haris lives.

When they were 7 years old they moved to the city of Jambi to their current residence because his father did not want Haris left behind in education like the village people who just finished Elementary then became rubber tappers.
