The Mortal World as the first God called it was a place where cultivation was considered important. If you are a normal person, you will always be intimidated even if you hide yourself.
As long as you are weak you will be attacked, while you will live as a noble if you are strong. However the number of true experts present in this world could be counted with two hands. Most people never go up, stay in the low ranks forever. This can be explained by the fact that this world is constantly robbed of its source by those who have ascended, leaving nothing for those who live in this lower world.
Fortunately the cultivators adapted and formed groups to help each other, because quantity was the only thing they had. That was how the Sect was born, at least that was how they were born in this world. Some Sects were said to be strong enough to destroy an entire country while other sects would not even be strong enough to influence a powerful family. Even the Sect was not spared from the cruel laws of the forest.
In this Mortal World there was a place called the Red Sky Continent, the weakest continent ever. And within this continent, many empires waged war to become the sole power of this enormous yet miserable place.
Most of the Sects living in this continent sided with the Kingdom because of how weak they were, yet that was not the case with the Poison King Sect. This sect was not the strongest but it was one of the sects that remained peaceful because the Patriarch of the Sect did not care about the affairs of different Kingdoms.
Because of this, the Toxic King Sect had to deal with the large number of young men and women who came every year to be recruited, wanting to stay away from the conflict. It was the case of one Jian, an orphan who came from a neighboring country.
This young man who was only 12 years old, despite looking much older, finally decided to try joining the Sect. That was why he was currently in front of his old and almost destroyed house. The place where he lived his entire life, a place that even beggars would not want to live.
As he glanced at his house one last time, Jian shook his head and steeled his resolve. He was sick of living in poverty, had to hunt for food in a forest where dangerous animals lived, forced to sleep with some feathers he stole from a merchant because of how cold it was a few nights.
He was weak, he had no real talent, but he would do anything to enter this Sect, his future depended on him. He actually knew almost nothing about cultivation, but as the old man had once told him: "With enough determination even an ant can defeat an elephant."
The Sect Headquarters of the Poisonous King was actually quite close to where he used to live, only two or three kilometers from his home. It was located at the foot of the mountain, although most of the cultivators of this sect lived within the mountain, the residence of the poisonous King, the Mystical Beast.
It took him several hours to get there on foot, and once he arrived, he saw he was not the only one the sect wanted to recruit. The sect would usually hold several Selection once or twice each year to recruit new disciples, but some people would come to the Sect Headquarters and try to be recruited by showing off their skills or offering some rare materials.
Most Sects would not accept disciples outside the Selection, but the Toxic King Sect was known to be extremely greedy, and therefore if one could show how they could benefit the Sect, they would be recruited.
Jian thought he could be recruited by passing the will test, something he obviously did not have. So you can imagine his shock when he heard another young man talking about trying the same thing.
"Hey, buddy! I heard you wanted to take the will test to be accepted into the Sect. It's the same for me." Said Jian as he appeared in front of the person who said that. The person was clearly a noble child, wearing an expensive white robe with a silver lining. After overcoming the initial shock he felt upon seeing Jian appear out of nowhere, the young noble smiled and nodded his head.
"Indeed, I intend to take a will test. I don't have the ability to pass any other tests and while my family is rich, I can't count on it for all the things in my life." Said the son of the nobleman. Jian was a little surprised that a noble would act so amiable, but again he could not judge the book on its cover.
"Then you two losers should really leave!" There was a voice coming from behind them. Shocked, the two young men turned around and saw a slightly older man surrounded by women staring at him with adoration.
"Oh really? And why should we just leave?" Asked the noble son, his words carried a nonexistent arrogance as he spoke to Jian. The other man smiled while the girls glared at the noble son but quickly stopped when they saw his clothes.
"The "Toxic King Sect was known to receive many types of people, but those who relied solely on willpower were unable to enter the sect. The sect won't get anything by recruiting you." Said the man in a condescending tone before he walked towards one of the sect disciples who had appeared to see the new recruits candidates.
The Sect disciple had heard what the man said and nodded, which made Jian and the noble son bow their heads.
".... I should have seen it coming. Looks like I'm going back home." Said the young noble, but Jian shook his head and placed his hand on his shoulder.
"Listen here, hmmm ...." He was speechless, as he did not know the name of the noble's son.
"Li Kuo." Only nobles looked depressed.
"Okay Li Kuo, as I was about to say, you can't just leave. We're gonna do a will test, do you think you have a chance to pass it if you act like one?" Jian asked, which made Li Kuo give a small smile.
"Dirty."
"You're right Jian. I have to stay determined and try to pass the exam." Said Li Kuo. Jian nodded and walked towards the Sect disciples with Li Kuo. The Sect Disciple who seemed to agree with the arrogant man, smiled at them and pointed to a cave behind him.
"You're not the only one trying to be accepted into the Sect by taking a willpower test. This cave is where you will take the test. It's a simple test because we're not in the actual Selection. Simply enter the cave, then you will be separated and have to find a way out of the cave. " Said the man. Jian and Li Kuo bowed and entered the cave, while the disciple was summoned by another disciple.
"Two young people trying to take a will test?" Ask another student who seems to be thirty years old.
"Indeed, the first one seems quite normal, but the second one is interesting. I think he noticed that I nodded at the other person's words to hinder the first person's morale. Besides, I don't feel anything special in him. Now think of it, the first person seems to be a noble. Maybe he received special training to pass this exam, it wouldn't surprise me if he passed. He just looked a little saddened by the fact that he had little chance of being accepted. " Said the first disciple. The second looked into the cave and only shook his head before leaving.
Together with Jian and Li Kuo, the two had entered the cave and were instantly separated by a thick fog. Jian tried to call Li Kuo, but even after shouting his name, he did not hear an answer. He decided to try to pass the test himself.
At first it looks relatively simple, considering that other than fog, there are no other obstacles. But then Jian heard a terrible scream and a skull appeared around him. He instantly understood what this test was about and tried to put his hand on his ear, but something stopped him. Next he saw images of himself dying in hundreds of different ways and tried to close his eyes but his eyes remained wide open. Finally when a foul stench struck his nose, he tried to cover it up but his hands were blocked. He was still holding her back, but it was starting to affect him.
But he still survived and kept going. He was not aware that a huge commotion had broken out outside the moment a gigantic meteor appeared in the sky and was about to fall right into the mountain.
" Get out of here !" Shouted Sect Disciple from before as the would-be members all fled, except from the arrogant man who frowned as he looked at the rapidly approaching meteor.
"Jin Bao! Where is the Gate Elder?!" Shouted the disciple to his older companion.
"He'll be here in a few seconds." Jin Bao replied, looking very scared.
And indeed, just as Jin Bao had said, the Gate Elder appeared. He was an old man with a long Fu Manchu mustache, long white hair tied with a low ponytail and had a snake tattoo on his neck. The old man was wearing a luxurious blue robe where he saw a long snake with two heads and a pair of arms. It was the robe of an Elder of the Poisonous King Sect. The man exuded a strong feeling that forced normal humans would not be able to breathe while standing beside him
"Older Wei Fang's Gate!" Jin Bao exclaimed as he and the other disciples bowed to the old man. The old man did not even glance at them.
"A meteor of this size cannot be stopped by my own power. Even if it was only a few stones, I would not be able to destroy it completely. Go back to the Sect and tell the Treasure Elder that I am forced to use space. treasure-time. " Said the old man. The two disciples nodded and immediately ran away, while the old man placed his hands on his robe and took out a small scroll.
He then threw it into the air, and directed one of his palms towards it.
"Void Transport Seals!" Shouted the old man. As soon as he said these words, the scroll opened while in the air and a complex purple pentagram appeared. Blue smoke began to leave the old man's body while the light surrounding the pentagram grew stronger. The meteor is now very close to the mountain and will soon fall in two or three seconds.
But the pentagram shot into the sky and appeared in front of the meteor, then enveloped the meteor and disappeared with it. The elder fell to the ground and spat out blood as a terrifying explosion sounded from afar.
"* Sighs * How will we explain this to the Sect Chief .... We've had enough problems with this damn kingdom." The Elder said before his eyes closed and he lost consciousness. If he was more observant, he would notice that a little light came out of the meteor before it disappeared.
Unbeknownst to most people in this world, the little light that has been cast in this world has more value than the life of God.
And Jian would find this because a small light completely pierced through the cave wall and entered his body.
"Armghh!" Shouted Jian as he felt a burning pain on his forehead. He walked a few more steps, got out of the cave and thus passed the test before he lost consciousness.
If anyone saw him, they would see a moon tattoo in the sun on his forehead. Although they would also see her hair turning black and white for a moment while her eyes also changed before she closed it and lowered her head first to the ground.
