Atonement for Sin

Some process Nawang must go through before meeting with Beni, his stepfather. Fortunately the process went quite smoothly and Nawang managed to get permission to visit the room Beni treated.

After successfully passing the critical period, Beni was then transferred to a normal care room like other patients. The difference is, Beni who incidentally an inmate must be closely guarded by the police. Not only so he doesn't run away, but also to keep him from threats.

A feeling of restlessness and nervousness accompanied Nawang as he walked down the hallway of the Flamboyant Ward. His heart was beating so fast. Especially when he finally arrived at the door of one of the first-class rooms of the type C hospital.

For fourteen years Beni was imprisoned, not even though Nawang visited him in the prison. Even when they were home, they rarely spoke. Now they will meet and talk for the first time in that period of time.

At first Nawang thought Beni would not want to see him, given their agreement fourteen years ago. Therefore, Nawang did not expect too much. Then, when it turned out that he had managed to get the permit, Nawang who had not really been ready immediately felt afraid. What if he's awkward in front of Beni?

“Please enter.” Said a man in a police uniform who was guarding Beni's room.

With a slow step Nawang entered the room. There are two patient branches there. One was empty and the other was occupied by Beni.

Beni's performance was very different to what Nawang remembered earlier. His hair had whitened completely and the wrinkles on his face and body were more clearly visible.

Nawang only realized that fourteen years is not a short time. The dashing man he knew now looked so frail because of age.

“You came.” said Beni.

“Hm.” sahut Nawang short.

Maybe only that cold-pitched voice was not too changed from Beni. However, somehow Nawang felt there was a bit of warmth there.

“I heard you got married. Was your husband a boy back then?”

Dahi Nawang wrinkled.

“That is, your schoolmate who often shuttle using the red matic motor.”

Apparently what Beni meant was Yudhis. At High School, only Yudhis was the one who picked him up with a red matic motorbike. Nawang did not know that Beni had seen Yudhis, because as he remembered Beni was always busy and only at home at night.

“Mm. His name is Yudhis.” replied Nawang.

There was a smile on Beni's face. Then, he again asked, “Did he take good care of you?”

Nawang nodded while replying, “Ya.”

“Good. In that case, my guilt might be able to lessen a little.”

“So, have you ever felt guilty?”

Nawang's question made the two fall silent. Then, a few seconds later, Beni suddenly broke down.

“Hahaha. Even you have not called me ‘Ayah’ as before. But, naturally. I'm the one who has scowled all your biological family.”

Nawang shook his head.

“I don't care about them. From the beginning, they never cared about me. So do you.” said Nawang.

Actually Nawang did not mean to say as much as the point. He thought, hurting the heart of people who are sick is not the right thing. But, he also did not find another sentence that could beautify the things he wanted to convey.

To get up, Beni took a deep breath, then threw it away slowly. Never once did he imagine that he would be insinuated as before.

“Then, can you allow to make amends for these elderly people in the past?” Beni pleads.

Upon returning to the hotel, Yudhis was in their hotel room. From the exact same clothes as this morning, Nawang suspected that Yudhis had just returned home.

“Gue bring rice padang. You haven't had lunch, have you? Or do you want another pension from the hotel?” Yudhis.

“OK. I wait, deh. Eat together.”

Nawang went to the bathroom to change his clothes. Once he finished, he washed his hands, preparing to eat.

“Waduh!”

Mata Nawang immediately widened when he saw a variety of dishes in the style of a padang restaurant displayed on the dining table. Everything is neatly arranged on small plates.

“Lo don't buy plates, do you, Dhis?”

“Casual. I minjem doang from hotel.”

“Wait! I should be more worried... lest you buy all the restaurants?”

‘Ctak!’

Jidat Nawang also became a victim of the death of Yudhis. For Yudhis, it was easy to buy a restaurant. But if you don't need it, what for?

“Ngawur aja tuh head. Yes, eat it!” yudhis Order.

Nawang rubbed his reddened head, because of Judhis. His mouth bulging showed his annoyance at the man.

He was just joking. Their current situation was too rigid and he was extremely dislikeful of it.

“Omong-by the way Mr Beni how?”

Nawang took a plate containing rendang, then put two pieces of rendang on the plate. Then, he replied, “According to the doctor, it's better. But, there is still a bad possibility if in the near future Dad is repatriated.”

“Means, we can only hope. Then, about the culprit, what do you get info?”

“As we suspected..” Nawang nodded, then continued, “Marcel smuggled poison into the cel. So, it's very likely that he's got a man in.”

Yudhis grunts.

“Tikus got the place should indeed be in got times, huh? Failed to play shaman, now he even messed with the law.”

“Lo talking rat got, make me no appetite aja.” hardik Nawang.

“Sorry.” Yudhis.

It is not his intention to deliberately make Nawang disgusted and not appetite. He simply has no other suitable term to describe a Marcel.

“One more. I'll love you, but eat first. Before lo ngoceh who was disgusted again.” said Nawang who then devoured his food without wanting to speak again. Like he said, he will talk again after his stomach is fully filled.

After twenty minutes, Nawang was full and immediately cleaned up the leftovers on the table to be stored in the refrigerator that had been provided by the hotel. He did not want to waste the food and planned to warm it again in the microwave when he ate it again later.

Now he sat facing each other again with Yudhis at the pantry table. In his hand was already a smart phone which he then placed on the table.

“Here is a recording of the conversation this morning. If you're denger, DUARR! I am sure it will be very mind blowing.” said Nawang like he was playing a detective in a crime drama.

He opened the recording app on the phone. Then, there was the talk of Nawang and Beni.

All over Yudhis body suddenly stiffened when Beni's confession was heard. Not only about who managed to smuggle Marcel to poison him, Beni also revealed other things beyond the problem. Yudhis only realized that this is what Nawang meant by mind blowing.

“Wang, we're not here to make it out? We have no intention to reveal the law mafia, loh.”

There was nothing funny about Yudhis face that was deathly pale, but a crisp laugh still slid from Nawang's mouth.

“Hahaha.. Like Dad has a lot of grudges with them, so kebablasan.”
