"Let's go in and stay a while, then sneak away." suggested Zed. "I really want to be alone with you for an hour or so. It could kill me for having to steal all those moments at school, always worrying that someone will catch us."
"OK, but I can't get out too soon." Answer me.
"I'll wait for you there. If anyone recognized me behind this costume, it would be a bad thing even if Tina did invite me" he said, pointing at the bench in front of Tina's house.
Everyone gathered in the kitchen. Ms. Tina had a large cauldron full of popcorn for us to eat and a green jelly that we had to feed each other with blinders.
It was impossible to wear this skull mask, so I took it off and joined in. Zed backed off, kept wearing his wolf man gear.
I was targeted by Nelson as a jelly feeder with Tina shouting instructions. The problem is Nelson spilled more jelly onto my shirt than into the container I was holding.
" It looks like I need to take a shower now" I screeched as the spoon hit my neck and the jelly fell on my chest.
I have to go home at midnight, so if I want to spend time with Zed, I have to make excuses at ten-thirty.
"You're fine going home alone" Tina asked as she ruffled the song on her iPod to start dancing.
"Yes, I've set the schedule"
"Hmm. Okay, I'll see you tomorrow."
"Thank you for Tina's brilliant party."
She laughs. "I love it when you speak in accent Britis, Sky. That's brilliant" he mimicked. Laughing loudly, he grabbed Nelson and pulled him into the kitchen to dance.
I showed up to the porch to find Zed waiting for me.
"Ready?" She asked.
"Huh u. Where are we going?"
"Let's go near your house. There's a coffee bar on Main Street that's supposed to be open."
"Is it safe?" Ask me.
"should have. We'll go to one of the booths in the back and sit in an inconspicuous place. I don't want to sit with this mask all night." Answer it while laughing.
I took the skull I had released earlier. "Should I wear this back? I feel like a fool when I wear it."
"You might want to think that people can see who's wearing a little skull suit walking with a werewolf, maybe someone will recognize you if you don't"
"Good coin." I wear it back.
"It's our second date, right?" Ask me.
"Yaps, and I'm gonna make our date better than ever" she hooked her fingers on my fingers. Hand warm.
The coffee bar is busy with parents taking a short break after a walk accompanying their hyperactive children through the night. We have to wait for the back seat.
"What message do you want?" Ask Zed.
"Hot chocolate with all the tops."
He then left and returned with a tall glass full of cream and marshmallows, with a chocolate stick next to him. Zed prefers black coffee to himself.
"You don't know what you're missing." I sighed softly as I drank a sticky marshmallow mixed with chocolate syrup.
"I thought I might be happier to see you." He sipped his coffee. "I know it's a cheap date about that."
"Yes, you know me, sitting here counting how much money you spend. Next time I expect caviar at a five-star restaurant and I treat you."
"I can eat a burger in a restaurant if you're hungry."
I pulled his claw. "I was just kidding. Just treat me like this. Let's keep this date as usual."
He stroked the back of my hand, sending a tingling amount of dancing around my spine. "I don't mind sharing the bill, but I'd rather buy it for my date lover. I don't think I'd like it if you treat me" he said with a smile and stroked the back of my hand.
I laugh. "You grew up with cavemen?"
"You've met my father and my brothers" Chuckled.
We walked back through the now much quieter streets. The snow-capped mountains glittered under the moonlight, the stars shining white in the black sky, so far away but so bright.
"It makes me feel so small" I said, imagining the distance between us and the nearest star.
"I don't really want to tell you, Sky, but you're small." Answer it while laughing softly.
I punched him in the stomach and he was forced to make a sound into the air, although I doubt that I hurt him. "Look, I'm having fun here - one of the stars' isn't the universe amazing?"
He grins. "It's a challenge when you're wearing a bone suit. Did you realize that you were shining under the moonlight like a distant star? I've never dated like this before."
"That's right. Your exception. I'm dating some-mostly from Aspen." He squeezed my waist. "What about you?"
I blushed, why did I start this conversation. "My friends there once framed me with a boy. That was a disaster. He loves himself so much, that's not true."
"So she wants you for hand candy?"
"What?"
"Only display"
"I shouldn't have accepted it at that time. In fact we only went out twice before I got sick. So you see my experience is very limited."
" I can't say I'm sorry to hear that. Did you enjoy the party?"
"The game is silly but fun."
"I wish you could play with me. I'm very interested in what happened to that jelly." He started to stroke my neck. "Hm.... Yeah, you definitely don't get it all."
"Zed up!" My protest when Zed kissed my neck, I always enjoyed his attention.
"God! I'm busy here."
When 'clean-up' as she called it, it was over. we turned our way towards my house. As we were about to arrive, two boys dressed as axe killers ran out of the fog, shouting loudly.
Their hands were bleeding and they had fake knives on their heads. Someone had a knife in his hand.
"There are a few more people to slaughter! Kill wolf! Kill that skeleton!" he yelled. And ran straight towards me; the bag of candy I was holding broke from falling, candy was strewn on the sidewalk.
He did not slow down, his blood lust was very convincing. The knife stuck towards me even as I tried to dodge. I screamed, half scared of him.
Seeing me like that Zed went crazy. He grabbed the boy's wrist and twisted it so that his knife fell to the ground. He then jumped on it, pinned it down, snatched his arm behind his back and hit it.
"Stop, Zed!" I shouted while taking off my mask. "He didn't mean to be evil-knives were fake."
The other boy jumped onto Zed and his fists started flying, the three of them rolling around in a mixture of fake blood and squeezed candy.
I can't get close to pulling a boy from Zed. My screams and the mockery of the troublemakers made the neighbors run.
Madame Hoffman rushed out of her door. "Police! I'll call the police!" He disappeared back inside.
"No, no! Stop, Zed-stop!"
Even worse, my parents came out, recognizing my voice.
"Sky, what's going on?" Simon shouted, running towards me.
"Stop them, Simon, stop them!"
Simon weighed and caught the smallest of the three. The little guy was swinging right as the police car swerved into our lane. There was a siren for a moment, and then the lights turned to illuminate the scene. Two other neighbors reach a fight before the police can get out of his vehicle; they separate Zed.
The policeman looked at the chaos that was happening and sighed. "Who's gonna tell me what this is all about?" He pulled out his notebook. "I know you, Zed Benedict, and these are the Gordano twins, huh? And ... eemm .. the skeleton of this little woman?"
"Sky's name, Sky Bright, my daughter," Simon said stiffly. "He didn't fight."
"You're a British family, right?"
''Yes sir.''
"I know these kids - they're good kids" he said, looking at the twins. "There was never any problem with them. Who started this?"
The police's gaze turned to Zed and me. He thinks he knows who is to blame.
"He attacked Sky." Zed wiped the blood from his lips.
"Well, haah! I'm just playing, dude, this is Hal-oh-een, remember? Zed becomes brutal, Officer Hussein.'' while holding his aching stomach and looks blood coming out of his nose.
''Let's go to the office, kids. I'll have the doctor check on you who's hurt and call your parents."
"Ah, officer!'' grouse the twins.
" Get in the car.''
Zed looked at me with a look of despair. Our secret date will be revealed soon.
''And you, young lady, I think we also need your side. Maybe your parents can drive you. Looks like my hands are full of psychopathic killers and werewolves in the car"
"I will carry it," said Simon in a truncated tone.
