Neighbor Oh Neighbor
struggle Sinta looking for work

I run my matic motorbike at high speed, to one of the famous companies in the city, the traffic jams make me difficult to ride my motorbike.

Today I was called a job interview at one of the construction companies that was quite bona fide. I don't want my delay to make me fail the interview later.

In this day and age it is quite difficult to get a job, I don't know how many applications I have submitted, but none of the applications are accepted, After a few months of waiting finally get an interview call as well.

I step my foot into the multi-storey building, there bearing the name of the company PT. Jaya construction.

I looked all over the room, many employees and employees seemed to be walking in a hurry, maybe they were afraid of being late, I thought.

I went straight to the reception desk, to ask which room was receiving the Interview for the post of secretary.

The attractive receptionist and beautiful make-up, watching me from top to toe. I feel uncomfortable being noticed that way too.

“Mbak sure? Isn't the OB interview mbak?” her question is demeaning.

Because of my appearance like this, she wasn't sure if I'd get a chance to interview for the secretary's post.

“Iya I am sure mbak!” answer me steadily.

“Mbak directly to the 4th floor aja mbak.”

“Thanks mbak!.”

I ran towards the elevator door that was almost closed, fortunately there was someone who held the elevator door closed, a man dressed neatly like a young executive.

Once in the elevator I thanked him while lowering my gaze. There were only five people in the elevator including the neat young executive.

Thank God, it turns out his interview has not been started, I joined the others outside the room, waiting for his turn on the call.

There were four other participants who all looked attractive like models, wearing a white blouse fitting the body combined with a short skirt above the knee, high heels, and elegant make up.

They looked down at me whispering, I knew they were talking about me, until one of them rebuked me.

“Ikut interview also mbak?”

“Iya mbak” says I'm short.

“gak muh mbak, fit her mbak to study instead of applying to be secretary.”

He was greeted with laughter by the other three women.

“On the requirements are not written to look attractive, yes I try to enter the application who knows received” said I relaxed.

“Where the secretary is beautiful, sexy, smart, not a kayak mbak, it's a dress or sack.”

The others chimed in, they laughed out loud. I just kept quiet and didn't respond.

My appearance is very simple just wearing a white shirt to the knee, a wide black skirt and a wide black hijab with an abstract pattern that dangles long, combined white sneakers without any makeup, just moisturizing my lips so my lips do not dry when the weather is hot.

Not long after one of the women was called inside, I waited for anxious hopes while pondering in my heart.

After the four of them finished in the interview all smiled mocking me.

“Good luck yes mba..”

“Hopefully succeed.” followed giggling to four.

Now it was my turn, I went into the interview room, they let me sit in the chair that was provided.

I looked around the room, there was a camera attached to me.

There were three men, they were about 40 years old, and one attractive-looking woman was about 30 years old, who would give me tests and questions.

They started reading my CV, staring at me once. I sat quietly.

“Please introduce yourself” Say one of them.

“Good morning, my name is Sinta Amada, I am a 23-year-old graduate of S1 master of management at Negri Dewantara University, and I have worked as an operator on a private campus for approximately two years."

At first they asked the basic questions, why choose this company, what is the purpose of this interview, what you give to advance this company and more.

All I answered smoothly and straightforwardly without the slightest nervousness.

They also asked about the profile, vision and mission of the company all I answered smoothly because I had learned it first.

Then one of them told me to operate the computer, starting from microsoft word, Exel, and power point.

And thank God I controlled everything. I wonder why they didn't ask me how I looked.

If they ask then I will answer, these are the women's clothes commanded by my Lord, may they not mind them.

Well.this is how it looks everyday, what is it with a wide hijab that dangles, shabby sneakers that I wear every day, also a backpack that contains a sophisticated, small Mushaf, agenda book, and so on, pen and mineral water that I did not forget to bring anywhere, also the old phone that I still use today.

“Alright Mrs Sinta, your interview is finished we will choose one that will be a secretary in the company, later if you are selected, we will contact you, we will contact you, thank you” Said the woman who looked elegant.

“Thank you, I'm sorry.”

I left the interview room with relief and wished I was accepted for a very promising salary.

Hopefully!
