As Red as Blood

[Chloe’s POV]

“Miss Eliza, there is another rose shipment below this morning.” Layla stood at the library door carrying a bunch of roses.

I glanced at him for a moment and rolled my eyeballs. “Please, Layla.”

“But this flower is still fresh and fragrant, miss. It is a pity to throw away, especially the price of red roses is very expensive in this season. Ah, I'll put it in another flower pot.”

“It's been two days in a row someone gave you a rose, miss. Usually the fans of the lady definitely give lily, daisy or tulip. This is a new fan huh, Miss Eliza?”

“You remember the man who trespassed into my tent? He's the one.”

Layla had already arranged the rose inside the crystal flower pot, she widened her eyes.

“I know, miss! That guy must be crazy about you. He is very handsome and tall.”

The alarm rang in my head.

“Don't you hate him, Layla? Why do you even praise him now?”

“After hearing the words of the soldier who fought with the lady, I have seen her as a different man. She does look cold outside, but she is very considerate of miss.”

“Layla, besides in the tent yesterday, you have met him again?”

Layla seemed to think for a moment. “Hmm... Oh, I met Mr. Dimitri two days ago while attending the lady at the palace. He called me for a minute but I forgot what we were talking about.”

I close my book so hard and get off the couch. I'll make a calculation with him! He had already dared to manipulate Layla's mind. Then think of something else that gives me the creeps.

“Layla, did she do anything weird to your neck?”

Spontaneous Layla holds her own neck. “I forgot, Miss Eliza. I'm sorry, miss. I swear I won't try to snatch it from you, miss. I'm not that kind of person.”

“Prepare Stormy now! I'll make the calculation with him!”

Layla gulped her saliva and saluted me then immediately went out as my eyes caught her figure from the glass window. I ran downstairs while lifting my long dress.

When I got to the bottom, Jack had already received the guest in. His black hair was a little messy from being exposed to the wind, he unfolded his black robe and Jack swiftly took it from Dimitri's hands.

“Good morning, Miss Eliza. You look very bright in a blue dress, soothing to the scenery.” His eyes glanced at me from top to bottom, not caring about Jack standing there.

I walked back to the man.

“Good morning, Dimitri. You also look..”.

My fist that punched his face managed to make him stagger a little. Jack looked at us with a fearful expression but I told him to leave by raising my head up.

“Seeing very handsome with crumpled face due to my fist.”

I cracked my fingers, prepared to anticipate his attack but Dimitri just laughed. He is crazy!

“I'm wrong what's Chloe?” He fixed his jaw.

“You dare to ask?! You've manipulated Layla's mind! Make her say good about you.”

Dimitri stepped closer to me.

“Maybe I did use a bit of vampire power to make Layla like me. That way, there are no more obstacles to approach nonanya.”

I was about to give him one more jotosan but his small hand was held tightly by Dimitri as he swung through the air.

“You have received the rose I gave you?”

His thumb rubbed the skin covering my veins, giving me goosebumps.

“Yes, I threw everything away. What are you doing here, Dimitri?” I clasped his hand.

Dimitri held his chest dramatically. “Didn't you promise to open your heart for me, Chloe?”

Dimitri's stupid request really made me dizzy! I was thinking all night about how her lips touched the skin of my hand, as she twisted my body and held me back. The sheer closeness of his body made me want more.

“But I do not promise to open my door for you, Dimitri!”

“Nona Eliza, you are so fierce. This is not your home, but the home of Edric Suarez.”

As if called, Edric came out of nowhere and greeted Dimitri. They talked for a while and I watched as the two men stood there. If you count the age of vampires, Dimitri is older than my papa!!

“Tonight you can dinner here, Dimitri.”

“Papa!”

“Please, Chloe. Just as a token of gratitude to the war commander King Rudolmuv for helping us. As an ambassador of peace, papa should host Dimitri.”

I grunt. I don't usually behave like this. “He does not eat human food and I do not agree that he sucked the blood of one of our servants!”

“Sucking Layla's blood do you mean?” his tone deliberately made my blood that had frozen boil.

“You!!”

“Already, already. You guys are like little kids. Dimitri's just like us, Chloe. He doesn't drink human blood anymore.”

I raised one eyebrow in disbelief. Dimitri smiled proudly. He's proud he doesn't drink human blood?

“What's your reason for not drinking human blood again?”

“Marketing, Miss Eliza?”

Edric. “Dimitri, meet me in the workspace after you finish talking to Chloe.”

We were both waiting for Edric to leave until the door of his study was closed.

“Since you left my life, I can't drink another woman's blood anymore.Oh, I tried it once but my stomach can't accept human blood. I stopped drinking for a long time when I knew you were gone. I only survived because someone needed me.”.

“You must have manipulated my mind so I could give you blood. I'm not the old Chloe anymore.”

There was a sad look on her face, then she said, “Vampire power doesn't work for you, Chloe. That's what makes me more interested in you. You are a unique human being, little babu. I once said that..”.

I turned my head to the side. “Is your room dominant in red?

Dimitri was stunned for a moment. “K-you've remembered it, Chloe?”

“I just origin guess turned out to be right.” I held my stomach holding back the laughter. Dimitri's face was funny when he thought I remembered everything.

He breathed a sigh of relief. “Good, if you remember everything maybe I'm not standing here anymore.”

Before the sun set, Dimitri and I walked down the path to the forest behind the residence of Edric Suarez.

Papa suddenly said he couldn't come with us because of some sudden business. He begged me to accompany Dimitri to go hunting. With a heavy heart, I ended up here, walking behind him lazily.

“Are you hungry, Chloe? I can carry you until we arrive in the middle of the forest.”

I quickened my pace and passed through it. “Who said? I can walk by myself, thanks.”

He heard her laughter from behind. We arrived in the middle of that dense forest, I could already see my target from a distance slowly approaching towards us. There was one big deer that was enough for both of us to eat. My hands are getting ready to pick up the arrows.

“Oh, so this is how you hunt? Just like human.”

The deer ran away when he heard Dimitri's voice. I hissed at him because maybe it was the last deer we could meet before the sun went down. I actually carried a bow and arrow for not wanting to use my power in front of Dimitri.

But how else? Rather than me not eating today, I ended up in the blink of an eye disappearing from Dimitri's side.
