Chapter 4
It's getting dark. Mas Adi has also returned from his exhausting job.
I sat next to Devano, helping him with schoolwork. While Mas Adi sat on the sofa while watching television.
"Oh yes, the money you asked for has been set aside."
Mas Adi suddenly asked about the money he asked for this morning.
I took a long breath. Should I tell him about what happened in this house this morning. Do I have to tell Adi that his mother came and furiously fussed over his money. What would Adi believe?.
"Hey, you're talking to me and daydreaming, why the hell." Mas Adi poked me because I didn't talk.
"I gave it to your mother."
I try to tell you what it is.
"Lho, indeed why, is it every month we always give money to
mother." Mas Adi glanced at me with an astonished look on his face.
I was confused where to start. I was afraid that Adi turned mad at me and accused me of insulting his mother.
"You're dumb again. Take the money, wear it tomorrow morning."
I got up from Devano's side and sat down next to Adi's mas.
"Mas, if I tell you everything, will you believe."
"What indeed. What do you want to say." He looked at me seriously.
I inhaled as much air as I could and started telling her what happened this morning in this house. From A to Z, there's nothing I missed. Even I also told Mas Adi that my hand was sprained because it was pushed by my mother until I fell to the floor.
But, what I was afraid of really happened. Instead of standing up for me and asking about my situation, he accused me of slandering his mother.
"You don't make up stories. I can't do that to you. Especially if you are his daughter-in-law. Even when mom came to visit this house, she always brought us food. He was never once rude to you or Devano. You don't put mom down like that. I don't like it."
"But, it's like that. I gave her money of origin to mother because her accusations against my mother made me hurt."
"Enough on."
Adi tried to stop my speech. But I just went on and made him emotional.
"Even this hand of mine, doesn't this prove enough to prove your mother's greedy and money-hungry rude treatment." I held my hand and showed it to her.
"Enough Inara."
Mas Adi got up from the sofa while shouting. Made Devano surprised and approached me with fear. He hugged me tightly because only this time his papa was so angry that he shouted like that.
"Son, you finish your book and go into the bedroom huh. Mama wants to talk to papa." I calmed Devano down and told him to go to sleep so he wouldn't get scared.
"You don't yell in front of Devano. Look, he's freaking out."
"Don't switch Inara's conversation. You're really outrageous to have vilified my mother like that." He pointed at my face with emotion.
"Don't point at me. I speak according to facts. Even if you don't believe me, I don't care. Because in reality your mother is greedy."
PLAKKIS...
A slap landed on my cheek. I held onto my hot cheeks while crying tears. This pain and pain in the heart coalesce into one.
"Your outrageousness, which you call greedy is my mother, the biological mother who gave birth to me. It's so self-destructive that you dare to vilify my mother like that again Inara. I'm banging for money to support you and our family. But you're acting like a selfless woman like this."
"Well, what living do you mean. Every time you give me money, even before I put it on, you've already charged it back for your insignificant personal needs with a nominal amount that doesn't matter."
I wiped my tears and continued my words. "I never even used it to buy things like women in general. I often save money because of the increasing need, while the income from you decreases."
"So, if anyone should be called 'unknowing themselves' it's not me mas 'but you." I pointed at his rough face.
Mas Adi pensive. I don't know what he's thinking right now. He turned around and walked away from me on the couch and went out in his car.
I cried in the silence of the night. Until I realized I was asleep and fell asleep on the sofa while hugging the chair cushion.
