Marrying My Brother's Fiancee

Marrying My Brother's Fiancee
EXTRA PART. ABOUT MARRIAGE

"Ma, pa. I want to say something, about my purpose in bringing Diah to meet with papa and mama tonight..." Doddy said as he arranged his seat, while Diah suddenly tensed up to see Doddy looking so serious.

Mom and Dad looked at each other.

"I want to marry Diah, if my mom and dad would give me their blessing..."

That unceremoniously stale statement made Diah's face reddish with no less surprise than the faces of Mr. and mistress Ferdian.

For a moment the atmosphere in the silent ambush only looked at each other, while Diah lowered his head not daring to speak a word.

"Married?" Finally the question came out of Papa Doddy's mouth.

"Yes, I want to marry Diah." Doddy replied without a doubt.

"Pope, this introduction isn't that serious." Papa Doddy held his body up on the chair, the face turned no longer relaxed.

"Before you just said, want to introduce a woman who is close to you but did not mention that you have a plan to get married." Papa Doddy continued, now his face looked straight at Doddy.

"I'm serious about Diah, so there's no reason for me to hang on to our relationship any longer. So I think that justifying our relationship sooner is certainly better to avoid slander." Doddy said, he glanced for a moment at Diah who was trying to raise his face in trembling, he was now so tense, even Diah's palms squeezing each other on his lap felt ice-cold.

"Have you two talked about this before you told your parents this?" Suddenly Mama Doddy who had been silent just observing, spoke up.

"We talked about it..." Doddy replied, he knew the one who might need to be softened was his mother, she was a very considerate person in every way.

"Do you believe it? Because talking about marriage is a very sacred thing, which is expected to happen only once in a lifetime."

The words that came out of Mama Doddy's lips were like a very hard slap on Diah's face. Although spoken in a soft voice but to the person who failed in marriage, Diah felt like those words were a blow to him realizing himself.

"I believe it, we feel good for each other..." Doddy smiled at Diah who was really tensed next to him.

Diah realized, as consciously as she was, that so few percent of herself was accepted but she was here now like someone who was facing the test just for trying to be brave and believing that Doddy was fighting for their love. Doddy is so convincing, at least he has fought for that blessing even if it will be heartbroken. And if they weren't a match, he'd be with Doddy till the end.

"Mama doesn't just want to hear that belief from you, Fadjri. But mom wants to hear it from Diah." Mama Doddy interrupted Doddy's words with a subtle attitude, as Doddy was setting his breath to continue his speech.

"I. I. everything is up to Doddy. I believe in his decision..." Diah replied with a stammer.

"Marriage is not just a matter of surrender or whatever. Marriage is not just about listening to one-sided decisions. Do not get married just you feel fit because if no longer fit could be the reason for the break up of a marriage. Seeing the right foundation before marriage determines how long it will last. Marriage is not just about love or feelings because it can fade with time but marriage is also about the courage to hold the commitment to the end, about trust and loyalty." Mama Doddy blinked her eyes for a moment and stared at the two people sitting in front of her in turn.

"We both thought marriage was the right thing for us to do. We love each other, and that's enough for us to start on a higher level." Doddy was so good at giving his parents confidence.

"Fadjri, the purpose of marriage is not to think alike, but to think together. If you force people to think the same thing, there will be nothing good, because it is only the arrogance side. That is why it takes enough time to consider a decision especially for a marriage. Marriage is not a higher level if it is a stage but is the highest level of a female-male relationship." Mama Doddy said in a straightforward voice but still sounded wise.

"We've known you for a long time, ma. Very long. We don't need any more time..."

"How long you've known him is not a yardstick of how much you can live with him going forward. Feelings will change if you just rely on time."

Doddy was silent, staring at his mother trying to digest his intentions.

"Your mother is proud of you, Fadjri, for being boldly honest about Diah's background including about her previous household failures with us before you brought her along and introduced her further. As parents, we feel like we are the most important part of your life above everything else in the world. But..." Mama Doddy sighed for a moment, glancing at her silent husband not saying a word.

"I'm sorry if you have to say this, it might be a little uncomfortable in the ears but mom and dad believe you're old enough to understand...because we do have to open up to each other before actually saying it's okay. Please proceed." Mama Doddy pulled the end of her veil, she looked very calm as she spoke.

"We are very curious as to how brave you were to marry Diah and her past legacy, she said, how responsible are you to your future wife who not only carries herself but there is a child who is not your flesh and blood who will force you to become a father even before you learn to be a father?"
