Today is the day that is in the future for Muslims in Indonesia and maybe even the world, that today is the announcement of the results of the Isbat session determination 1 Ramadan falls tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.

The determination of the beginning of Ramadan fasting is determined through two methods. In Indonesia, the two methods are the Rukyatul Hilal and Hisab methods.

Rukyatul hilal is the activity of hilal observation by looking directly or using a telescope.

Hilal is apparently the first young crescent moon after the conjunction (itjimak /new moon) from the direction of sunset which is a reference to the fall of the beginning of the month in the hijri calendar and including the month of Ramadan.

The Rukyatul hilal method is used by Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) by observing at several points in Indonesia.

In the hilal rukyat method which is below a height of two degrees is impossible to observe with the eye, namu if more than 2 degrees then the hilal is likely to be seen with the naked eye.

And the ministry of religion also adopted a new criterion, namely the agreement of the Minister of Religious Affairs of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore (MABIMS) where the moon height can be observed at least three degrees and elongation at least 6.4 degrees.

If using the Rukyat method, then the visual hilal observed will be a sign that tomorrow will be the first day of the month in the hijri calendar.

But if the hilal is not visible then in agreement that the day after tomorrow is the time of the fall of the beginning of the month. This applies both to the initial determination of the month of fasting/ramadhan, other months and even the month of Shawwal/lebaran.

This is called istismal, which does rounding the number of days up to 30 days before the start of the new moon.

The Hisab method is a series of calculation processes, one of which aims to determine the geometric position of celestial bodies to then find out the time at which celestial bodies occupy these positions, or find out if one time cycle has started or not.

How to determine the beginning of the month, including the 1st of Ramadan according to Muhammadiyah is useful in determining the beginning of the month on the Qomariyah calendar or the month of the Hijri calendar.

The Muhammadiyah hisab method is known to use three criteria, namely that there has been an ijtimak of the sun-moon, ijtimak occurs before sunset, and the moon above the horizon or has not set at sunset.

Then the hilal is considered to have existed (seen) when the sun goes down earlier than the setting of the hilal even though it is only less than a minute away.

"Believe yourselves by seeing the hilal and being open (ending the fast) by looking at the hilal".

This fasting month is a month that is expected by Muslims all over the world, because this month is a month full of Grace and full of forgiveness.

In the material Ibn explained that Ramadan is a holy month that is awaited by Muslims, where the month is full of the Mercy and forgiveness of Allah and makes us to be closer to Allah SWT.

The holy month of Ramadan is also called Syahrul maghfirah or the month of forgiveness. For in this month Allah has opened wide the gates of forgiveness to every servant who asks forgiveness for his sins.

Even from the first night of Ramadan, Allah SWT opened all the gates of heaven and closed all the gates of hell. So that it becomes an opportunity for everyone to rush themselves to obey and multiply worship from the beginning to the end of Ramadan.

The Prophet Muhammad said,

Every sin ever committed by a servant will be forgiven by Allah SWT, as long as the servant observe the fast of Ramadan with full faith in Allah SWT, and ask for forgiveness with earnest to Allah SWT.

The Prophet Muhammad said,

"Whoever fasts Ramadan with faith and expects the reward of Allah SWT will be forgiven for his past sins, and whoever prays on the night of Lailatul Qadar Allah will forgive his past sins (little sins)", (H.R Sunan Tirmidhi No. 683 Maktabatu Ma'arif Riyadh Version).

And also in this month of Ramadan, in addition to carrying out fasting (saum), Muslims around the world also commemorate the first Revelation that was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad according to the beliefs of Muslims. That is where in the month of Ramadan is also the month where it is revealed the Qur'an which is our holy Muslim community throughout the world.
