Kenan sat in a chair beside Shaka closed his eyes after putting a plastic bag containing food he bought while on the road earlier. He looked at the black young man's face carefully. Comparing it to a photo of a baby in the lap of the mother.
"Do you know about the mother who gave birth to twins? I forgot to ask her," muttered Kenan smilingly looking at the twins and her mother.
The long moans from Shaka caught Kenan's attention. He kept the photo in his shirt pocket, hurriedly seeing the state of Shaka who began to squirm on the sickly bed.
The tribal youth hissed before opening his eyes, he complained as the netra collided with the dazzling light of the lights. He closed his eyes and slowly opened them again.
"Where am I?" after successfully explaining the vision.
Kenan smiled still not making a sound. He noticed Shaka who was confused by the new place.
"Shaka?" The man on the bed looked a little surprised because he thought he was alone.
"You ...?" Kenan. He brought the occupied chair closer towards Shaka's head.
"A moment, I called the doctor" he said, pressing the call button on Shaka's headboard.
"Why are you here?" Shaka still looks confused.
"Have you forgotten what happened to the building in the forest? I'm taking you to the hospital for treatment." Kenan left when a team of doctors came to check on him. He stayed away giving them space to check on Shaka.
"Thank God, Shaka's brother's condition has stabilized. You need to rest a lot to recover. Excuse me, do not forget to take the medicine that I have provided," he said, who was greeted by a nod of the head by Kenan.
"Good, Doctor. Thank you" he said, taking the doctor out of the room. Kenan returned and opened the package he was carrying.
"You have to eat, want me a bribe?" haggle Kenan after opening the food pack.
"No need, but can you help me move on?" Shaka frowned, his head felt throbbing as he moved just a little.
Kenan put his food on the table, he helped Shaka to sit down and allowed the position of the bed so that he felt comfortable. Shaka receives the food that Kenan gave him, looks through the menu that Kenan brought, then smiles before devouring it.
"Why? Do you want meat?" ask Kenan confused. Shaka looked up, shaking his head while continuing to chew. There is no meat or fish, only vegetables and rice are also boneless meat made from soy. Tofu and tempe.
"You know, even though I belong to that tribe, Baba never fed me meat. He never allowed me to eat the same meat that they ate" Shaka said, to Kenan's surprise.
A bit of disbelief heard him because after all Shaka has been with the tribe since he was born.
"How is that possible?" Unknowingly Kenan said. Shaka smiled as he continued to finish the food in his hands. He did not seem to lie, the water was calm and his tone was impressed not made up.
"It doesn't matter if you don't believe. I would never be able to get someone to believe me, let alone force me, either" she said, scooping the rice back and feeding it to her mouth.
I think he should be different. Her body odor is not like theirs, maybe because she doesn't eat human flesh?
"You want to eat with me?" Shaka offers.
"Ah, no. I've eaten, it's just for you. Spend it before you take the medicine," he said, smiling after thinking about Shaka's words.
The young man in black nodded as he finished the food in his hands. He is not like a sick person who will not feel good when the tongue touches food.
"Come, let me throw it away." Kenan grabbed the empty package, gave a glass of water before moving closer to the trash can.
"Your name is Kenan?" Shaka asked shortly after Kenan sat in his chair back. He gives the medicine that the doctor prepared for Shaka and helps her drink.
"Well, just call it that. That's my name, why?" Kenan put the glass back down and smiled at Shaka. The question was answered with a head. Shaka just made sure the name of the young man who always helped him.
"Mmc ... Shaka, do you know who your mother is?" ask Kenan to fish. The face was rippling, looking sad and moody. He looked down, staring at one of his infused hands. A long and heavy sigh rang out from his direction before the young man raised his face.
"I don't know, but I was once nurtured by a kind woman. She is beautiful and considerate. Although her job was to give birth to a child of descendants from the tribe, she never lost the attention of me who was then about seven years old. He took me running from the tribe, Kenan. He said, 'you're not a descendant of this tribe, you better come with me and we run away from here.'" Shaka looked at Kenan who slightly widened his eyes hearing the story.
"Many think that we eat our mothers after being unable to produce any more children. In fact, our mothers were all buried properly near the holy cave. If they give birth to daughters, then we no longer need to kidnap women to produce offspring. That child will later give birth to the next offspring," explained Shaka who made Kenan more stupefied.
"We honor our mothers, Kenan. There's no way we're gonna eat them, unfortunately they can't live as long as Baba." Shaka closes his story with a different explanation than what he heard.
He was digesting the story he had just heard. Kenan took out a photo that he kept in his pocket, giving it to Shaka for the young man to see.
"What's this?" shaka asked while receiving the sheet from Kenan.
"I'm looking for the baby in the picture. She has a birthmark on her chest, did you see it?" Kenan shows the sign that looks faintly visible.
Shaka frowned, his eyes squinting in order to clearly see something Kenan pointed at.
"Birthmark? I have it" he said, putting the photo on his lap. Shaka unbuttoned the patient's upper shirt, showing Kenan the mark he had. The mark was disguised as it was almost similar to his black skin.
"Did you see it? It's exactly like the one in the picture. I thought it was a scar or something, it was a birthmark" Shaka said, showing a mark on his left chest.
Kenan, who was curious, approached and looked carefully at the mark on Shaka's body. He was surprised, his assumption all this time was true that Shaka was his twin brother whom he had just known.
"What's up, Kenan? Why do you look surprised?" Shaka was confused by Kenan's sudden silent reaction with a sad face.
"You ...?" Without a word he hugged Shaka's body tightly, crying haru for being able to meet his own brother.
"My sister, you're my sister. The baby in the picture is us who was just born, and the woman is our mother" Kenan said. This time, it was Shaka who froze for a while before returning Kenan's embrace. Long nights create a new story of the life of a human child.
