Chapter 20: The Yun Family

Yun Guanyu's eyebrows shot up as he heard what Master Ouyang said. The Yun and Ouyang families had been interconnected with each other through marriage a few generations ago. To this day, the two heads of the family are still friendly with each other as both families have strong ties for decades.

"Whose lady?" Another voice chimed in, and the two old men turned to look at the three sons of the Yun family; yun Yuanzhi, Yun Zhaonan and Yun Shao.

Yun Yuanzhi was the eldest of the four Yun brothers. He has a straight and calm personality. The person standing to his right was the second son, Yun Zhaonan who looked wise and intelligent at the same time, while the youngest son, Yun Shao, who was five years younger than Yun Qingrong, was, have a cheerful and confident personality.

At first glance, the three sons of the Yun family seemed to be people with extraordinary talents.

The three sons joined their old father and greeted Master Ouyang politely, before Yun Yuanzhi asked Master Ouyang again.

"Mr Ouyang, can you clarify what you said earlier? Who are you talking about?"

"Ah, I was talking to your father about Qing'er's daughter, Su Xiaofei. He was only eighteen years old, but he managed to expel his father's mistress and illegitimate son." The old man said in an amused tone.

"Su Haoran! You dare to deceive my sister!" Yun Shao exploded in anger. Amongst Yun Qingrong's three brothers, he was closest to this younger brother of his.

Yun Yuanzhi was seven years older than Yun Qingrong and when they were younger, he was very considerate of her, patiently teaching her whenever Yun Qingrong was unable to understand any part of her studies.

As for his second brother, Yun Zhaonan, he doted on Yun Qingrong and taught him basic martial skills when he was bullied at school. However, Yun Qingrong was closest to Yun Shao as they always spent time together playing and deceiving their parents when they were young.

The three sons of the Yun family worked in the military, while the only daughter, Yun Qingrong ventured out and worked at an entertainment company in Guangshang. Clearly, as the only daughter of the family, the entire Yun family loved her to no end. Even General Yun was very careful and patient towards his only daughter.

From the day Yun Qingrong was born, to the day she became a happy little girl who liked to chase after her father whenever she had to leave for work, to growing into a graceful young woman, he was treated like a pearl by his father.

Yun Guanyu would be harsh and strict towards his sons, but when it came to Yun Qingrong, he would never deny anything or even dare to raise his voice to her. Therefore, when brother Yun grew up together, his three brothers always received scolding and punishment in his stead.

Growing up in such a special state, Yun Qingrong clearly did not feel any bitterness as he grew up. She has developed a naive and confident personality who can only see everything in black and white. It was a pity that she met Su Haoran and fell in love with her charm.

He was handsome and smart when Yun Qingrong first met him. Back then, Yun Qingrong was working as a director at another entertainment agency, whereas Su Haoran was his partner from another department with a lower position.

He also had a gentle and relaxed temperament that he had never seen in his brothers. At first, Yun Qingrong did not pay much attention to her because she was still his subordinate in the entertainment agency, but Su Haoran continued to pursue her until she managed to convince him to date her.

Yun Qingrong fell in love with her and could not bear to refuse her marriage proposal after half a year of dating. However, she did not expect her entire family to oppose her decision to marry Su Haoran.

Yun Guanyu was able to see Su Haoran's scheme and warned his daughter that the man was only using it to elevate his status in society. Although she worked in the entertainment industry, it did not change the fact that Yun Qingrong came from a family of prestige and old money that many men coveted through marriage.

It was fine to be ambitious, but the old General hated the person who used others to uplift himself, taking advantage of the weaknesses of others. To him, it was cowardice. One has to work hard to be worthy enough to achieve their goals.

Even the now deceased family leader's mother, Yun Qingrong's mother, was against their union. He deeply expresses his disappointment, knowing that his daughter was blinded by the man's pretenses.

Yun Qingrong did not believe that Su Haoran married him just because of the influence of her family and her inheritance, therefore, he asked her to sign a prenuptial agreement that greatly benefited her. She insisted on marrying him and refused to listen to his family's warnings.

Unfortunately, with a very stubborn father, Yun Qingrong rebelled against him and began to marry Su Haoran. Clearly, his old man shot out a fury and did not acknowledge his daughter, which broke Yun Qingrong's heart. She only found out when their butler refused to allow her into the Yun Plantation, a month after she married Su Haoran.

"Miss, Master said that you are not welcome here unless you divorce the man."

For the first time in his life, Yun Qingrong felt alone and unhappy. Even with her husband by her side, after two years of marriage, they were still unable to conceive a child.. She then falls into a depression until she visits an orphanage supported by her newly founded company and sees a beautiful two-year-old baby girl for the first time.

Despite being abandoned by her own biological mother in an orphanage, the baby is not a fussy child who craves attention. According to the babysitter left by her unknown mother on the doorstep of the orphanage on a stormy night, the baby rarely cries for attention and will only do so when he is hungry or when his butt is wet or dirty.

The first time Yun Qingrong held the baby girl, he had a deep feeling that he had never felt before. She feels such a deep connection with the child even though she is not hers and falls in love with him. The baby was simply the prettiest child she had ever seen in her entire life.

As someone with a barren womb, Yun Qingrong convinces her husband to legally adopt the child, intending to raise her as their daughter. It wasn't easy to convince Su Haoran, but she managed to obtain her permission and officially named the baby as their own.

Yun Qingrong bestowed the child with the name Su Xiaofei because the child was very cute and charming, and she hopes the child will grow up as a smart woman who will hold back her impulse and make informed decisions.

Master Ouyang chuckled at Yun Shao's reaction. He had already expected this reaction from the youngest son of brother Yun. After all, despite all these years of separation, Yun Qingrong was still a part of their family. He could only hope that this incident would repair the bridge they burned years ago.

"Quiet." Yun Yuanzhi told his youngest sister, giving her a warning look. "Let's hear what Mr. Ouyang has to say."

"You called Qing'er's foster daughter, how's she doing?" Yun Zhaonan who asked this question to Master Ouyang. There were rumors circulating in Qiying City about Su Xiaofei, but no member of the Yun family knew whether it was true or not.

Master Ouyang hummed and rubbed his chin while pondering how he should describe Su Xiaofei.

"How should I say this ..." He started. "Based on her appearance, I must say that she has a very pretty face. She can turn out to be very pretty once she is mature enough. Regarding her temperament, she was nothing like Qing'er."

"That's understandable. She wasn't Qing'er's biological child from the start." Yun Guanyu commented.

Master Ouyang shook his head.

"It's not like that. That girl is smart, but very cunning. He knows when to take advantage of the situation and knows when to step back. Perhaps this was the reason why the rumors described him as arrogant and haughty. From what I've seen, it seems like she hates Su Haoran, despite being adopted by him, and adores her mother so much that she doesn't mind playing dirty to protect Qing'er. One could easily tell that he hated his father, especially now that his mistress and illegitimate daughter had come and tried to bully Qing'er in their own home"

"Well, old reports say that he's not actually the foster father of their adopted son. It makes sense that he's not on good terms with her." Yun Zhaonan quipped.

"Su Haoran is getting bolder, huh. He better pray that our paths don't intersect, because I will definitely teach him a lesson that he will never forget for bullying my sister!" yun Shao. Since he was closest to their sister, he was obviously furious after hearing the news of Su Haoran's betrayal.

"Did she know who you were when you first met at the pharmacy?" Old Master Yun asked curiously.

Was it really a coincidence that the young lady who saved Mr. Ouyang's life was none other than Yun Qingrong's adopted son?

Master Ouyang sighed this time, thinking that it was a pity that many years had passed, yet Yun Qingrong was still estranged from his own family. Had he not met Su Xiaofei on that fateful afternoon, he would have never known that Yun Qingrong had a child.

"No. I don't think he knows me or is aware of my relationship with my mother's family. Yun Guanyu was speechless, his eyes lowered as he pondered what he was going to do with the sudden news about this daughter. Of course, she was furious to learn that she was right, that Su Haoran would molest her daughter once she realized that she was unable to gain anything from their marriage, but why didn't his daughter seek help from them?

He was old, and he knew that his time on earth was outnumbered. Who knows how many years he'll have to live? Her only hope right now was to see her only daughter return home.

Unfortunately, he was arrogant and hard on her in the past. He regretted refusing to see her when he came home to see her, even though she was at home. She was her most precious daughter, and she was saddened to learn that Su Haoran disrespected her daughter by having a child with another woman.

As for Qing'er's adopted son, as long as this Su Xiaofei valued and appreciated the woman who raised him, the Yun family would not persecute him.
