Have you ever visited the National Monument or Monas which is a landmark of the City of Jakarta? Monas is a beautiful historical place and has many meanings.
In 1955 President Soekarno made a design contest to create a monument that commemorates the struggle for independence of the Indonesian nation. This competition was conducted in two periods, namely 1955 and 1960.
Silaban's design was selected in the first competition, but in the next competition none of the works were successfully selected. President Soekarno then decided to ask Silaban to redesign the National Monument in accordance with the concept of his thinking in the form of Lingga and Yoni. In addition to Silaban, there are several other architects who are also involved in the construction of Monas namely R.M. Soedarsono. Monas was officially built on August 17, 1961 and opened to the public on July 12, 1975.
The purpose of Monas was established to commemorate the resistance and struggle of the Indonesian people during the independence revolution of 1945, giving the Indonesian Nation inspiration and raising the spirit of patriotism as the next generation of the nation
