Being a Middle Child

Being a Middle Child
Work first

Since the promise a week ago to go hiking with Rani and Dewi, it felt like time was slow for me, until finally I arrived on Saturday which means tomorrow I went to climb Mount Cikuray.

"Ma, what part is now in the fields?" ask my mother who will go to the field.

I have been working in the fields for a few days, of course, to get my trip tomorrow.

"Curly chili peppers in Cipanas," replied the mama in an ordinary tone, which was not as usual with a high tone, probably because some days I helped in the fields.

"Ok, ready, Commander," I replied while displaying a respectful style, and passed to change into costumes with work clothes namely long-handed shirts, trousers, hats, and boots.

Then, I set off for the fields on foot, as it was not too far from home only about twenty minutes on foot.

The atmosphere of the plantation spread before me, beautiful, vast garden boxes look neatly overgrown with various plants, how good God has provided sustenance through the land of my village.

I've reached my parents' farm, a field overgrown with chili peppers. I rushed to pick up the sack and started picking the red chili and later it would be sold to the city or the besieger.

I didn't feel the time starting to go by noon, when I saw the clock in my car apparently at 10:00 p.m.

"Relieve!" suddenly a voice called out to me. When I looked up, my mom called me.

"Yes, what ma!" I answered rather loudly because it was our distance apart, I was on the right side of the farm and mama on the other side.

"Here, eat first!" my mother told me to eat, this is the time I like the most. I immediately walked to the left end of the garden. Apparently, there was already a mama, father, and three mama officials who were also preparing to eat.

It has become a habit of mama and other villagers while working in the fields to bring supplies from home. In addition to being more efficient, also because when it is in the middle of the field far from the settlement there are no stalls.

"Come, eat Mat, tumben diligently," said bi Darmi mama employees who also started eating.

"Hehe, you have to dong bi kan mama's favorite child," I said immediately with a joking tone.

"Everyone learns, his name is also in the village if not from the garden where else," said mama menimpali.

I also took a plastic plate that has been provided, then scooped rice and the side dish is tempe fried, sambal and stir fry waluh do not forget to spiked crackers. Food and cuisine are simple but with a family atmosphere and eat after tired of work it feels really delicious.

After finishing eating and drinking I immediately continued my task of picking the already red curly chili.

One by one I picked the chili, so it did not feel that the sack I was carrying was almost full.

Allah Akbar..... Allah Akbar......

Adzan's voice echoed, it was a sign that it was time to go home. For workers, it is usually only until Dzuhur they work and are paid every ten days but different from the garden owner, if the weather is good he will only break prayers when Dzuhur then return to the fields until the afternoon.

"Ma, where is this stored?" ask me to mom while carrying a sack filled with chili.

"Tali-taliin Mat, keep bringing it home on a motorcycle," said Mama explained what I should do next.

"Ready ma!" I said, as I passed collecting sacks filled with chili in the field. Then, I strap those sacks with the raffia rope. After that I took the motor that my father used to go to this field.

I put a sack in the back and a sack in front of me to bring home. After that I went home with the two sacks and then after I got home I kept them in the yard and rushed back to the field to pick up the sacks filled with other chili.

After several times back and forth to pick up the sack, my task was finally done. Then I went to the bathroom to clean myself up and went to the mosque.

"Bal, are you home?" I asked when I was going to the mosque and saw Iqbal watching television while still wearing his school uniform.

"Where are you going?" iqbal answered and asked me again.

"Come on!" answer Iqbal while getting up from his seat then turn off the television.

I was used to praying in the mosque because the distance of the mosque that was close to my house was across the street, also because of my parents upbringing.

The mosque is not too broad with yellow paint and green variations has existed since I was a child, every entry I always remember the good memories of childhood when learning to teach here.

After the prayer, Iqbal and I returned home.

"Assalamualaikum" I said as I entered the house. Silent, someone answered. Then I walked into the backyard apparently mama had been neat and was selling chili to the mongrel.

I heard my mom fighting over prices with the bullies. For this time I heard the price of chili is twenty thousand per kilos from farmers which means in the market will be sold at a price of thirty thousand to forty thousand perkilo.

After I finished selling chili, my mom walked into the house while I was watching television with Iqbal and Ami tea.

"How much is it?" I asked as my mom sat next to Ami's tea.

"Alhamdulillah twenty-two thousand will be perkilo, quite two thousand as well" said mama explained while grateful for our current sustenance.

"Ma, tomorrow I want a hiking permit, yes" I said.

"What's? What is that king? Don't understand mama mah," asked mama with a confused face that actually looks funny.

"Hiking mama up the mountain" Iqbal explained.

"Well, that!" seruku justifies Iqbal's speech.

"Oh, which mountain? same who?" ask mama.

"Cikuray ma, the same thing, but he said again the holiday season gini mah will be asking," said I explained.

"Strong is Grace? go up the mountain tired," asked Ami tea while laughing, probably because they do not believe me.

"Kuat dong tea, yes try first, if not strong stay rolling down aja, easy right, hehe," I replied jokingly.

"Yes, please be careful!" my mother said that means to let me go.

"Thank you ma, but all of you want to take the results of yesterday-yesterday, hehe," said my point is to ask for my work wages these few days.

"Emm, it's a pay turn," said mama.

"Hehe, must dong!" my spoken.

Then mama took out some red money from her pocket like the result of selling the curly chili earlier, and gave it to me.

"No, don't waste it!" every time mom gives me a wage. I was the only one who didn't go to school among my four brothers and preferred to work in my parents' fields, at first my parents didn't allow it but the more here they finally accepted my decision.

"Ready ma, I want to prepare first for tomorrow ah," I said as I sauntered to go to my room and prepare for hiking tomorrow.

**Where is the first hiking moment Grace? pantengin keep on...
