Death will come to all who live without exception. But sometimes when death is too sudden, it makes those who are left feeling unprepared.
This morning, Joseph's body was buried. The sudden death, made shocked and hit by the people around him. Many people attended and prayed at the funeral procession. Starting from family, neighbors, colleagues, company employees and friends Ibra. Everyone feels lost, especially Ibra.
"Go home, yuk" Ayleen asked. Everyone was gone, leaving him and Ibra in front of the tomb of Mr. Joseph who was still wet with a sprinkling of fresh flowers.
"I still want to be here, Ay."
"Tomorrow we're here again, now we're home. Last night Brother didn't sleep, I didn't want Brother to be sick" she said, gently rubbing Ibra's arm. "We pray for Dad from home" he said. There is still Haura in the hospital, she does not want Ibra to drop let alone drag on in grief.
Ayleen led Ibra to leave the funeral. Outside, there was Aydin waiting for them. Septian's father deliberately told him to wait and drive them home.
Ibra and Ayleen's house is full of mourners. On the street and side, there are so many flower board deliveries that are out of anyone. The funeral home was indeed placed there, not in the new house of Mr. Joseph. Because Ayleen's parents, Om Musa and Aunt Colon were meeting the mourners, Ayleen told Ibra to rest in the room. While he was chalking to take food.
"Eat ya, I'm a bribe." Ayleen entered the room with a tray of food and drinks.
"I'm not hungry, Ay."
"You must eat even if you are not hungry." Ayleen sat down next to Ibra, scooping food and thrusting it in front of the man's mouth. But the bribe was never accepted, making him inevitably have to be a little pushy. "Sister..."
The full gaze of Ayleen's request made Ibra unable to refuse. Although he did not taste, he still opened his mouth and accepted Ayleen's bribe.
"Why did you leave so soon, when we just made up. I haven't even had time to apologize to her." Ibra said after a few successful mouthfuls he swallowed.
"I'm sure, I'm sorry Brother. The old man's heart was as vast as an ocean. They'll forgive their kids before they even apologize."
"Have you heard from Santi's mother?" suddenly, Ibra remembered Haura. At the moment, Santi is still in hospital.
"Nothing," Ayleen shook his head. "May they be okay."
...----------------...
The third day after Joseph's death, Ibra and Ayleen came to the hospital. Haura had already passed the critical period and was transferred in the infirmary. When Ayleen and Ibra came in, there was someone else in the room besides Santi. A couple of well-aged husbands.
"They're Aunt Ratna's parents" Ibra told Ayleen. The two then greeted Ratna's parents.
"Sorry, we are not present at your father's funeral" said Mr. Ali, Ratna's father.
"We're in condolences, Ibrahim boy." Ms. Halimah-mother Ratna spoke. The appearance of the two people was very different from Ratna's. They looked simple and polite, very different from Ratna.
"Thank you, Mom."
Actually, not only because they have to keep Haura and Ratna in the hospital, but there are other reasons behind their absence. Pak Yusuf's family did not like Ratna, never considered her their brother-in-law, and it clearly affected the Ratna family as well. They felt that if his arrival was not expected, perhaps even, the Ibra family would be more pleased if he did not come. Especially when the accident, Ratna who was driving, indirectly, he who considered as the cause of death of Mr. Joseph.
"How's Haura doing?" ayleen asked who was currently beside Haura's bed. The little girl seemed to be sleeping at the moment.
"Alhamdulillah, Haura has gone through a critical period, Ms Ayleen," replied Santi. "But..."
"But what?" Ayleen frowned.
"Haura kept asking Papa and Mama" Santi's tears came back. "I can't bear to tell you that the papa doesn't exist."
Ayleen shed tears. Poor for Haura who had to accept the fact that at this young age, she was already an orphan. Not to mention Ratna is still critical. I hope that woman is safe. Ayleen kept praying for the best even though he did not like Ratna too much. But if you see Haura's face, it's heartless if the little girl has to lose her father and mother at the same time.
"How's Aunt Ratna doing?" Despite hating Ratna, Ibra still wants to know her condition.
"He's still in the ICU" said Mr. Ali. The man turned his gaze in the other direction while wiping away the tears.
"Son Ibra," Ma'am Halimah grabbed Ibra's hand and held it. "Please forgive Ratna" he said, shrinking his nose. "We know Ratna was a lot wrong. But please forgive him. We were the one who miseducated him, we were the one Nak Ibra." Ms. Halimah patted her chest along with her broken cry. Mr. Ali who was beside him immediately grabbed his shoulder to calm down. "We realize, Ratna's been wrong a lot."
Ibra bowed in. Forgiving Ratna was not easy for him. But looking at his parents, it was heartless to say no.
"With Ms. Ratna's family," called a nun who had just entered Haura's room.
"Yes Sister, we are his family" said Mr. Ali.
"Bu Ratna is back to critical."
Ms. Halimah became the first person to run straight to the ICU room followed by Mr. Ali. Ibra and Ayleen also followed, leaving Sister Santi to look after Haura.
From the glass, it looks like the doctor is doing help to Ratna. Ms. Halimah and Mr. Ali unceasingly offered the best prayer for Ratna. Until finally, it was seen that the doctor removed the medical device attached to Ratna's body.
"The patient on behalf of Ms Ratna, passed away."
