Chen several times could not meet in person because of the busy Ella. That morning she came back in hopes of meeting Ella. He needs some approval from his Grand Miss.

Chen parked his car in the garage in the basement..He took the elevator. As he was about to enter, he passed by the passing gatekeeper.

Why is there a guard while the gate is not working? Because the guard's job is to monitor the outer side of the base.
