Chapter 2: Swordmaster

The alarm clock shows that it's 5:59.

He set his alarm clock to 6:00 sharp.

In just one minute, he would hear a shocking alarm!

But a faint shadow pressed the alarm button.

And who is that shadow? It was none other than Jae Woo.

He stood up right, lightly stretched, and headed to the bathroom.

Jae Woo collects cold water inside the red sink, and rubs his face with cold water. Thus, he immediately woke up.

He then whispered to his reflection in the mirror.

“Now, let's start.”

He would only be satisfied if he immediately did as he thought.

After all, when he made the decision to drop out of school and become a pro-gamer, he went straight out.

“At that time, my homeroom teacher tried hard to stop me .. I wonder if they are okay.”

He threw out his thoughts suddenly and left the house.

Hwing.

It was still early in the morning, so the air was cold, but it did not make him unable to bear it.

But there was something that troubled him: his body, which was blown by the wind.

Since he was lacking in muscles, he felt as if a strong gale would blow him away.

‘At least let's try walking.’

Jae Woo tries his hardest to pierce through the wind, and takes it step by step.

“Fieh. Phew. “

5 Minutes had not even passed, yet his breathing had become haggard.

Walking is as hard as finishing a marathon. Still, he did not give up, nor did he rest.

‘If I rest today, then I will lie down tomorrow!’ Jae Woo punished himself.

He lost 2 years of his life. He had no time to waste or hesitate anymore.

“2 years!” He thought, a venomous statement coming from the bottom of his heart.

‘One more step. Just one more step! ’

Jae Woo gritted his teeth, pushed, and continued walking forward step by step.

* * *

Jae Woo walks for a week, building his endurance and muscles.

Of course, he only trained for a week, so there was no major change to his body.

He's still skin and bone. Still, he no longer stumbled over the wind.

Therefore, he decided to start his training in earnest, and look for a fencing school.

“Swordmaster,” Jae Woo read the sign.

Swordsman.

It was not a sport; it was a dojo teaching people who pursued the art of swordsmanship.

As such, the training his students conducted was difficult and rigorous, and their spears reflected real-life combat.

In a few words: it teaches the true swordsmanship. It has nothing to do with Jae Woo, who was once a pro-gamer.

“At that time, the.”

But the situation has changed.

He had to get into the fence school no matter what.

There are three reasons behind this.

“First, train my body.”

He did not want a body he could show off, but a well-trained body. Like a true martial artist!

“And actual combat sense.”

He had no scientific evidence, but he felt like those who could fight in real life could fight well in the game.

Since Jae Woo has spent years as a pro-gamer, he has experienced that first hand.

In other words, virtual reality characters are heavily influenced by their controller senses, experience, and combat sense.

That is the reason so many virtual reality game ratings are black belts.

Of course, there are people, like Jae Woo in the past, who have improved their abilities in the game itself.

In any case, Jae Woo is currently unable to play the game, so he needs to improve his combat senses.

And to improve that combat sense, Jae Woo feels that the Swordmaster is the most suitable.

Because it's the most debating dojo in the country.

And the last reason is …

“This is really cost-effective.”

A one-month membership to Swordmaster cost 200,000 won.

Overall, it's not cheap. Because a sports fencing school will cost about 100,000 won per month.

But instead, Swordmaster is open from morning until late at night and even open on weekends.

It was only closed in the new years and Korean Thanksgiving.

Jae Woo plans to attend the dojo from morning to night every day, so Swordmaster is indeed the most suitable for him.

Still, 200,000 won was still plenty for someone in his situation.

However, once he was discharged, his family did not have to pay any more medical expenses.

So, he apologized to his mother for winning 200,000 and coming here.

His mother gives him money easily, and Jae Woo decides alone once again.

“I promise, I will succeed as before ... and give you a life of luxury!”

After all, for all these reasons, Jae Woo must be a disciple of the Swordmaster.

The problem is …

Would they accept it when it was difficult for him to lift the wooden sword?

‘Alright, let's go in first.’

Jae Woo forcefully opens the dojo door.

“Excuse.”

Ding.

The doorbell rang, and the man who appeared to be the instructor came over.

The instructor wore a uniform and a tall, rough man, with thick eyebrows and large bright eyes.

“What business is there here?” the man asked.

“I want to learn swordsmanship,” Jae Woo said.

“Mm.”

The man, after looking at her, showed an awkward expression.

It's nice that someone came looking to learn swordsmanship.

However, Jae Woo's body is not in the condition of learning it.

“She has almost no muscles.”

It would be catastrophic if Jae Woo, with his weak body, had to undergo their hard training. No, it would definitely be a disaster.

“I was bedridden for a full 2 years due to an accident. That's why my body is a bit .. But I can still do well. ” Seeing the instructor's expression, Jae Woo immediately replied.

“I'll direct you to some other dojo. Training here is too difficult. You can't withstand our training with your body it. “

The training was so rigorous and boring that even the healthiest of people quit the first day.

Worse, Jae Woo's body won't even last all day; even an hour will be hard.

That's what the man decided.

“I can accept it,” Jae Woo said, his eyes showing his confidence.

“I've been doing this for over 10 years. At first glance I can tell. Please listen to me, ” said the man, trying to convince him.

Of course, Jae Woo won't just give up.

“Please put me in training for at least a few days,” Jae Woo said.

“I can't.”

The man shook his head.

“Then one day. Please train me for one day. If I can't handle it, then I will leave immediately, “ Jae Woo said, underlining his one-day training.

“Hmm.”

The man changed his mind, because the skinny boy would not give up.

‘He will cave in a day. No, one hour. After an hour, he will go alone. ’

The man finally nodded.

“Good. Spend the day at the dojo. Your name...?” the man asked.

“My name is Jae Woo. Choi Jae - Woo. “

“I Mr Kim Deok Bae.”

“Ya sir.”

“Then, how about we start with 500 swings down? If you can't do it, then you can go, ”Deok Bae grinned. It was obvious why he was grinning.

Then let's see how much you can take!

However, his smile immediately turned into astonishment.

Every time Jae Woo drops his sword, he will take it back and swing it once more. Every time he fell down, he would stand back up, grit his teeth, and continue swinging his sword stubbornly. And thus, he managed to complete 500 swings!

As soon as he is done, Jae Woo grabs his sword and uses it to support himself. His whole body was shaking.

“Again and you will die!” Deok Bae shouted and stole the sword from him.

As soon as he picks up Jae Woo's sword, Jae Woo falls flat on the ground.

Deok Bae is so surprised that he sees Jae Woo. Fortunately, Jae Woo has just spent all his energy and fell asleep.

“Difficult cake!”

Deok Bae's eyes, which looked at Jae Woo, were filled with astonishment.

She once thought that Jae Woo would give up in an hour, but she changed her mind.

“Men like this don't give up easily.”

He's correct.

The first day, the next day, and even a week passed without him giving up.

And that's how half a year went by.

* * *

Half a year is not short.

Despite that, Jae Woo goes to the dojo every day. He never missed a day.

“Halo.”

Jae Woo opens the dojo door and goes inside.

“You here?” Deok Bae smiled and greeted him. They were both close enough for half a year.

“I will change and start training soon.”

Jae Woo goes to the dressing room and takes off his clothes.

His body had undergone drastic changes.

In short: his body was as thick, sturdy, and as strong as a wild horse!

His body is proof that his time here is not a waste of time.

Jae Woo, who is wearing his uniform, comes out and starts training right away.

First, 500 swings down!

Deok Bae came and swung his sword beside him.

Jae Woo has swung his sword the deepest in the dojo.

Deok Bae swung his sword just like him, as if he could not allow himself to lose.

Both completed 500 swings down, and then proceeded to 500 horizontal swings, 500 pushes, and 500 diagonal swings. When they finished, they sat on the floor and rested.

“Fiuh, this is hard. Guess you can't beat age, “ Deok Bae said as he massaged his shoulder. Since he was in his mid-30s, his body quickly grew tired.

Jae Woo, who is still in his early 20s, quickly recovered.

“Come start the debate.”

Jae Woo gripped his sword and stood up.

“After I rest a little more,” said Deok Bae, making a big fuss about anything.

Instead of saying anything, Jae Woo just looks at her, as if he told her to hurry.

“Fiuh, this guy doesn't know how to be considerate, does he?”

In the end, Deok Bae straightened his tired body.

“I really won't hold back,” Deok Bae said deeply.

As soon as his face wrinkled, his already rough face looked even scarier than before.

Deok Bae made the first move.

However, it doesn't work at all on Jae Woo.

After all, there were monsters more terrifying and terrifying than any human in the virtual reality game.

So, for Jae Woo, who has seen such monsters regularly, Deok Bae's face is nothing more than a comedy/horror B movie.

“Haahp!”

Jae Woo takes the first step and attacks.

The impulse!

It was a surprise attack.

He was after the ball!

However, the two of them were not wearing their protective equipment.

If random walkers saw this, they would scream in fear.

Of course, Deok Bae easily blocks Jae Woo's sword, as if he had gotten used to it.

Swordmaster was a school that trained its students in real-life swordsmanship.

In a spar, a surprise attack is allowed, as well as attacking into critical areas such as the back of the head or the ball. Worse, hand-to-hand combat is also allowed.

Obviously, they don't wear protective equipment, like real life.

As a Swordmaster instructor, Deok Bae often received such surprise attacks, and even applied them himself.

Byeahk!

Deok Bae, after blocking Jae Woo's attack, immediately counterattacks. He's aiming for his own critical area, heartburn!

Jae Woo leaned to the side and dodged Deok Bae's attack. He then swiped his sword down.

Whirr.

The sound of his sword cutting through the air rang out in the large hall. Deok Bae, also cut through the air and swung his sword.

Jae Woo and Deok Bae tensely exchange blows.

Heck! Heck! Byeahk!

Even so, the sound of their swords clashing would not stop.

Both of their attacks would hardly be uniform with each other.

Deok Bae will take the offensive and push forward, and Jae Woo will continue to defend. Even so, Deok Bae did not look so good.

‘You monster!’

To him, Jae Woo is clearly a monster.

He really is a monster. After all, Jae Woo only studied swordsmanship for half a year, yet he was able to argue evenly with someone who had studied for over 10 years!

“Mati!”

Deok Bae began to impart more power to his sword.

“No thanks!”

Jae Woo did the same.

Byeahk!

Their swords clashed and Jae Woo was pushed back.

He had no chance of defeating Deok Bae with pure strength or swordsmanship.

Instead, Jae Woo will move forward, as if knowing where Deok Bae's sword will land, giving him an advantage.

And he would somehow manage to find loopholes and attacks in an unexpected way.

Of course, Deok Bae will not fall for Jae Woo's unconventional attacks due to his accumulated experience and skills.

Deok Bae carefully blocks Jae Woo's punch, and pushes forward.

So, their swords clashed against each other many times!

Overall, Deok Bae held the lead throughout the game, but Jae Woo continued to hold on.

In the end, they could not decide the winner and the match ended in a draw.

“Eh, it ends series.”

Deok Bae furrowed his brows.

If it was not a spar that resembled real life, but a real life spar, then Deok Bae would definitely win.

Because he won't control his powers so Jae Woo isn't hurt. And he would also use some fatal techniques.

But even if he wanted to replicate the battles in real life, he couldn't do any of that. After all, the goal was not to hurt him.

However, their match ended with a bitter result because of that.

“Empty pieces.”

Deok Bae looks at Jae Woo.

Jae Woo is too easy to see his movements. And he instinctively found and attacked his weak point.

It must be a gift from God. Plus, he's a hard worker!

“He will probably be stronger than me, yes?”

Deok Bae is jealous of Jae Woo's raw talent, and is irritated that Jae Woo's swordsmanship will surpass his abilities with better refinement.

“Why are you looking at me like that?”

Jae Woo, after noticing Deok Bae's strong gaze, furrowed his brows.

“I'm just jealous. What, is there a problem with that !? ”

“From what?”

Jae Woo tilted his head.

“I'm jealous because you're a genius!”

“Who, me?”

Jae Woo laughed, speechless. What's he talking about?

“What are you doing again? You have only learned for half a year, yet you can already fight evenly with me! ” Shouted Deok Bae suddenly.

“…”

Jae Woo will refute his claims, telling him that he is not a genius, but shut up.

He was unsure of his sword, but he definitely had some kind of special ability.

“I'm not a genius. I guess you could say ... Do I have ESP? ‘

Later, Jae Woo gradually recalls the memories of that day, the day he first became aware of his special abilities.
