One Night With The Boss

One Night With The Boss
Chapter 9

"And the photos made me think of the whole experience I wanted to offer. But most coffee shops target young mothers with children and entrepreneurs rushing to drink caffeine quickly." Kate raised her fork and frowned. "I want to create a place where students can meet their friends and enjoy fantastic conversations and music. The atmosphere is young and vibrant. With music and the internet so that students can work while drinking coffee."

"And it was a success."

"Yes. The place was packed and our profits were amazing. It used to be so exciting."

"Making money is always so."

Elgort provoked Kate's memory with his rather rough tone. Kate glanced at the man, wondering if there was anything else behind his comment, but his handsome face did not reveal his thoughts. Are the feelings of Pekanya excessive?

"Yes, well, that's when I decided that we could do the same elsewhere. The bank would not lend me any more money because I was very inexperienced and they were not willing to give me too much money for eighteen years. I'm coming to your company, because you're offering a business loan, I think you can help us."

Elgort grabbed his wine glass. "Your first cafe gave you a profit, right?'

"Yes." Yeah."

"But now you're not profitable, it must be very disappointing."

"We spent too much money on renovations." Kate watched as Elgort drank, subconsciously following the movements of her throat with her eyes. "I paid renovation services to do what I did myself in the first cafe. It costs more than I estimated. It was a mistake but it wasn't a mistake I would make again."

"No." Elgort's look was on Kate's face. "You will."

The atmospheric tension overwhelmed Kate and she put down her fork. "You'd say no, just because I haven't increased your investment." Emotions bubbling in Kate. "I'm not losing your money either. You're not losing anything. You are a billionaire. This investment is nothing to you. But it's everything to me and the people who work for me." Kate pushed her plate, suddenly feeling too sick to even think about eating. "Why invite me to stay and visit a coffee plantation if you'll just say no?"

Elgort was not smiling. "You still have time to change my mind, Miss Rutherford. And I know the coffee garden owner's family wants to meet you and hear what you want to say."

"Hear what I have to say about what?"

Kate looked at Elgort, her expression blank and clueless. The man made it sound as if he was going to stand up and give the facts.

"Your business, Miss Rutherford. Because they are your only supplier. Your business is their business. Your luck is closely related."

"that's right."

Kate was supposed to use every last ounce of her brain power to try to understand Elgort so she could find a way to change the man's mind. However the girl found it almost impossible to concentrate. Instead of being straightforward, all he could do was realize a small irrelevant thing. Like a tangle of dark-colored breastplate that was only visible on the open neck of Elgort's shirt, his hand movements were firm and confident. Then her mouth, there was something about the sensual lines of her mouth that constantly caught Kate's attention, something entirely masculine.

If the man had no money, women would still be in droves. And sharing the same space as he made her immediately realize their differences.

Kate is so fascinated by Elgort, when a cup of coffee is placed in front of her that she realizes that her plate has been secretly taken.

Kate forced herself to concentrate on something other than Elgort, she lifted the cup to her lips, sniffing and sighing with appreciation. No matter how stressed, coffee always calms him down. "This must be the best thing in the world."

"It's nice that you think so. That coffee comes from your local coffee garden business supplier."

Kate sips. "It's delicious." Perhaps the coffee garden owner will add their plea to him because if his business is closed then they will have to find a new buyer for their coffee. "I am looking forward to my visit."

"Good."

"Well_" Kate put the cup back on the table. "..., it seemed like spending the whole night talking about me, it was very boring. What about you? Were you born and raised in Mexico?"

"I don't understand what my origins have to do with the viability of your business" Elgort said softly, his accent strange. "Follow my advice and concentrate on the things that matter."

"I'm just curious about you, that's all."

"I never talk about myself. Remember that." Elgort got up with a lithe gesture and Kate had her own impression that her simple question had troubled and unsettled the man.

"Why? If I find something, you have to kill me and then eat me?" Kate makes a joke in a pathetic attempt to make Elgort smile, but there is nothing on her gloomy, dark and cynical face.

Kate wiped her smile. "I'm not a journalist or a gossip, Mr. Downey. And I don't think any mass media would be interested in my visit to your inn."

Elgort's strong body was sturdy, as if he was stepping on a subject he hated. "Prepare early tomorrow morning, wear something easy, as this is a tropical forest and you will most likely get wet. It's so wet."

"Then, there are no four-inch heels." Noticing Elgort's stiff mouth lines, Kate sighed.

Gestur Elgort made it clear that nothing had changed between them, despite the fact that they spent one night. There is no softening and no certainty.

But if the man had no intention of extending his loan, why bother taking him to look at the coffee garden?

Looking at her slender and handsome gloomy face, Kate felt her entrails move suddenly. He had no idea what was going on in the man's mind, but he was willing to bet that it wasn't good.
