HANDSOME CEO LOOKING FOR BLESSINGS

HANDSOME CEO LOOKING FOR BLESSINGS
Chapter 3 FIRST MEETING

Five years later…

Rye just landed at Soetta Airport. Business in New York is pretty good. He must immediately take care of the production permit from his coal company.

The weather is very sunny. Beautiful afternoon, her heart. Rye's waiting on line E for pick-up. The car delivered by Hotel Andromeda has not yet arrived. He heard a loud chatter nearby. Rye glanced to the left, towards the path of D. Three young men and a middle-aged woman hugged each other and laughed. They seem to be a family.

“Aduuuh, Cilok! You're still a mustache. I thought you were bule. Hahaha!” said a somewhat stocky young man.

“Derri, stop calling your sister Cilok,” said the older woman. Her clothes were rosy, it looked like she was their mother.

Rye smiled amusedly and shook her head at the furore. Then looked straight ahead again waiting for his invitation to arrive.

The Line D…

Anna has just graduated S2 from a university in the Netherlands on a scholarship from the NGO Award track or a scholarship for NGO activists (Society Self-help Institution). He joined an NGO engaged in environmental conservation and community empowerment in one of the provinces in Kalimantan.

His mother and two sisters hugged him happily as they greeted him at the airport. Then together they wait for an online taxi to come pick up. The hassle of finding a parking space at the airport undoes the intention of Derri, his sister, bring the family car to pick up the brother who just returned from the Land of Windmill.

Rye gets into a special black sedan to pick up VVIP guests. A moment later, an online taxi came to pick up Anna and the family.

At the first crossroads from the airport, Rye's car runs straight, while Anna's car turns left. No one thought, the hand of fate would bring the passengers of both cars apart in that direction.

Bernard Paul, native of Canada. He's 71 years old. Calculated for the size of the Indonesian people. In fact, Mr. Bernard looks still fresh and deft. If he was visiting remote villages, he could walk miles away casually, without looking tired. While the field staff who are on average younger forty years is boring.

Mr. Bernard is a calm and very visionary boss. He loves Kalimantan so much, that he dedicates the rest of his age and money to the preservation of the environment and the empowerment of the people of Kalimantan.

He founded the Green Lestari NGO fifteen years ago, along with several founding councils, including a Dayak community leader from the village he had accompanied.

Mr. Bernad is very humble and wants to turn a blind eye for the last time in Borneo.

Riska is Senior Program Officer in the Environment Division. For six years he has worked at the Green Lestari NGO. That morning, he glanced at the cynical Anna who was chatting with the staff of Section I & C (Information & Communication). Riska was still upset because Annalah was sent to participate in the NGO Award selection at that time. He thinks it's unfair.

Mr. Bernard should have chosen him, even though his own scholarship was reserved for public policy programs. He certainly can. Anna has only been working here for three years. Despite being dedicated and prominent in her work, Anna remains a junior and for Riska, juniors are forbidden to step over seniors.

Riska is determined to find a way to take Anna down and show the world that she is better than Anna!

The comfortable Green Lestari NGO office occupies a two-story building. The first floor consists of a living room, pantry plus a long dining table, meeting room, and a small mushalla.

The workspace is on the second floor. There are no walls, nor dividers, separating the rooms between directors, program managers, program divisions, support units, and finance. All are fused, with tables lined up facing each division. The director's desk was facing their table, only about two meters away.

Mr. Bernard himself arranged all this. His philosophy is openness and equality. Their separators are just empty streets for staff traffic.

As Anna engages in exchanging stories with staff to catch up on her information during her studies in the Netherlands and Riska devises her evil plans for Anna, Mr. Johan enters the room.

Mr. Johan is one of the staff of the original Green Lestari NGO Dayak Ngaju.

Johan is not alone. Behind him was a young man with a perlente appearance.

“Pak Bernard, this is Mr. Adnan, just arrived from Jakarta to meet Mr.” Johan introduced the man.

Mr. Bernard greeted with a warm smile and reached out to his guests, “Halo, Adnan! Howwasyourjourney? Good luck, yes.“ He held a close hand of Adnan's welcome.

“Good, Mr. Bernard. Quite smoothly, even though the weather is not good,”.

“Call me Ben. Folks, let's get closer. I will introduce you to the replacement of Mr. Didi,” pinta Pak Bernard.

The entire staff stood docked and made a semicircle in front of Mr. Bernard's desk.

“It's Adnan, 28 years old, unmarried.” Mr. Bernard began to introduce Adnan while smiling knots, glancing at his female staff and still single. Rebellion of the affirmation of Adnan's status invites a small fanfare between them.

“S2 from Australia.” Bernard continued. “He will be our new Program Manager, replacing Didi who resigned last month because he had to take care of his wife who had a stroke. So, he had to go back to Java. Come on, you guys introduce yourself.”

“Hai, Adnan! I'm Dian, Coordinator of the Environment Division.”

“Riska, SPO environment.”

“Dodi and this Winda. We are staff of Bu Dian.”

“Hai, I'm Hendra! It is called Omest, he said. This is Neni, my fruit children, we from the admin team,“ Hendra introduced his men while joking.

Neni sewot was not given a chance to introduce herself. His face water changed immediately. Others, including Adnan, laughed at the behavior of the two of them.

“Halo! I'm Wira, Comdev Coordinator (community development).”

All introduce themselves, Agus, Dessy, Tiara, Dino, until Anna's turn.

“Hai, I An... hatchiiih!” Anna suddenly sneezed hard, making her saliva slightly spurted and almost exposed to Adnan.

Anna gasps, “Soriii!” Spontaneous Anna shut her mouth. “Sa-me Anna, support unit for research and public policy.” Anna immediately turned her reddened face away.

“ Okay, guys, to chat we continue in the pantry, yes. Maxi. Bu Lia cooks special to welcome Mas Adnan,” said Neni, winking to Adnan.

In the pantry, Anna was very excited to see a large bowl of peppers that had been bathed in peanut spices. Immediately he charged at her while unsheathing the fork. His friends laughed when they saw him.

“Take it easy, Anna. The peek will not run,” said Mr. Ben chuckled.

Anna filled her mouth with two large pegs at once. The bean seasoning drips over his left chest, soiling his clothes. “Aduuuh, jorse, deh!” it's on itself.

That afternoon, Adnan went straight to work. Mr. Ben gave the instructions in the meeting room. Ms. Dian, Riska, and Anna were in attendance.

“Adnan, next week PT Eka Prakarsa will conduct a public consultation to obtain a coal mine permit in District X. So, you discuss the company profile and social conditions there with Dian and Riska.” Mr. Ben gave his orders.

He also asked Adnan to study the mining and post-mining plan documents with Anna. “You have three days to learn everything. Weekend you can travel around town for your new place orientation.”

Ahead of returning home, Adnan and some of the staff descended to the first floor. Adnan went straight to the parking lot, Riska was already there greeting him.

“Hai, Adnan!” sapana. “You were escorted by Mr. Johan to your boarding house? I came to find your kosan, you know, help Neni. I hope you like it, yes, with our choices. That's best for a rate of one and a half million per month. Oh, yeah, how about I pick up dinner tonight? Think of it as a welcome from me,” invite Riska to try to be friendly.

“Oh, Riska, you're so nice, but I'll tell you later at about six in the afternoon, yeah. Worry I will be very Tired, but thank you for the offer.” Adnan responded also kindly. He smiled, showing his white teeth lined up neatly.

In the car to District X, Bu Dian sat in front with the driver. Riska sits in the middle with Adnan, while Anna is in the back seat. The seating order was already planned by Riska. Before the others get in the car, Riska asks Anna to sit in the back seat. He reasoned that he wanted to more easily coordinate with Adnan and Bu Dian regarding the preparation of public consultation.

Basic Anna is easy going, he just accept it without asking much.

At the beginning of the journey, Riska dramatically began to retell “his struggle” looking for the best costan for Adnan. He said there were many obstacles, ranging from being chased by a boarding dog, falling from a motorcycle because of a slippery road, until his umbrella skirt got stuck in the razor blade until torn because there was a lizard crossing suddenly.

Kosan Adnan was the tenth of the eleven places he surveyed with Neni. In the backseat, Anna sneered.

“He wants to discuss public consultation, even talking kosan,” sungututnya in heart. Stupid timing. Anna is back to enjoying the novel Toon, a web novel owned by Mangatoon that she really likes.

Public consultation of PT Eka Prakarsa borrowed hall of District A. The directly affected community representatives were present from ten villages in District A and five villages in District B. Officials from relevant provincial and district level agencies were also present.

There are also Indigenous Councils and representatives from four environmental NGOs, in addition to Green Lestari. Adnan and the team were welcomed by PT Eka Prakarsa Public Relations Manager, Mr. Ridzky.

The first session is the opening. Greetings from various parties are quite long and boring. After the break, then go to the core event, namely the presentation of mining and post-mining work plans of PT Eka Prakarsa. As the public relations manager's presentation was just a few minutes away, there was a rumble of the sound of the helicopter landing. Mr. Ridzky stopped his presentation.

Before long, a young executive was followed by two aides carrying Ecolac briefcases and a number of thick documents. The executive looked handsome in a matching suit and tie, and looked expensive. He put his hands together on his chest as a tribute to the audience in the room.

His sunglasses were opened and and he shook hands warmly with the officials and figures sitting in the front row.

“Brothers, this is Mr. Rye Adrian Raharja. He is CEO of PT Eka Prakarsa.” Mr. Ridzky introduced his boss and gave the opportunity for the boss to speak, expressing his apology due to his delay.

Anna took a deep breath. “Hadeuh, public consultation content speech only,” grunts slowly.. Adnan glanced and smiled.

“Sabar,” whispered. Anna smiled shyly again.

Responses and discussions will be discussed after the coffee break. Adnan revisited a number of notes as discussion material later. The note is the essence of the many inputs provided by Bu Dian and Riska related to environmental conditions, as well as input from Anna about the contents of the mining work plan and post-mining documents.

Riska smiled meaningfully looking at Adnan's preparations. Only he and God knew what plan was in his mind at the time.

“This is the time to drop Anna, her inner”.

Riska was assigned to submit the mining and post-mining work plan documents to Adnan and Anna. Anna had just come from abroad and Adnan had just joined them. Both are unaware that one of the twenty-three appendices accompanying the two documents does not exist. They thought they had studied the entire contents of the document, following the attachments.

Riska deliberately did not gloss over that one attachment. Early in the morning before leaving for a public consultation, he had already arrived at the office to slip the annex he had hidden away, back into the pile of documents on Adnan and Anna's desk.

He smiled smugly at how embarrassed Anna was in the forum when her analysis was raw because there was one important appendix that was not included in her study. Riska did not realize, his actions would tarnish the reputation of his organization. The malice has enveloped his heart.

After the coffee break, question and answer sessions and discussions took place. Adnan had the turn to represent Green Lestari to convey a note that needed to be clarified in the forum, the weaknesses of the mining and post-mining work plan.

Long-term Adnan read Anna's analysis that found a very large gap or gap from the plan because it does not include risk management on global market conditions, associated with disaster mitigation strategies.

Though both aspects are important to maintain production stability and the ability of the company to compensate the people directly affected by mining projects.

Rye, the CEO, calmly responded to Adnan's Green Lestari review. “I don't understand on which part of the organization you see that gap.

Everything you mentioned we've outlined in 14 supplements. Please you look back.”

The attention of all public consultation participants was focused on Adnan and the team. Anna reopened the documents. He believes the supplement does not exist. Each attachment or supplement is not numbered, only sorted by title.

Anna opened up sheet by sheet and the document did indeed exist! He was shocked and became very confused.

“Why can this be? Siwerkah my eyes?” thought. Nervously, Anna tries to convince Adnan that the document did not exist before. Adnan did not reply, he grabbed the attachment and returned to the forum.

With a gentleman, Adnan offered his apology and asked for time to re-learn. Next, he will send a response and input via e-mail.

When the show was over, Rye approached Adnan and his team. “Why did you guys speed up last night until such an important supplement was missed?” tanyakanya. Both of his hands were in the pocket of the suit. Anna stepped forward, but Adnan held her back.

“Sorry, Sir. It seems that I as the new program manager was very careless, but as I said in the forum earlier, you are still willing to accept our notes and input?” adnan.

“Of course. I am interested in your analysis of social versus business relationships. Usually, environmental NGOs like you are business people, which is important for sustainable nature. People need work and so on. So, who will meet me to explain more concretely about it?” rye said, still with both hands in his pocket.

Anna smiled broadly. His face began to shine. It was like he had a chance for penance. “I, Sir!” He raised his right hand.

Rye nodded and smiled. “Meet me tomorrow at Hotel Andromeda. Near your office, right?”
