Believe me Vano feels himself the most jerk because it treats Elisya very badly. How could he hurt the woman he loved so much.

He didn't even care about his condition later, all he had in mind was where Elisya was? Does the girl still want to meet him? Will Elisya forgive him? Vano really loves Elisya.
